TABLE OF CONTENTS Contents 1 Carton Label System & Procedures 12 Total Pages in this Section 19
Overview This section outlines the specific carton and packing requirements. Destination Maternity Corporation s expectation from all vendors is 100 percent compliance for all shipments. The below subsection outlines the following: packing goods, poly bag information, carton construction, and carton packing and shipment preparations requirements. Packing Instructions An approved Destination Maternity price ticket must be on all merchandise. A Destination Maternity file transmits the information for the price ticket. Scan price ticket for approval on the Destination Maternity Internet site. Price ticket must match the sewn in care label identifying the DM SKU# of the item. Each garment must be in its own poly bag (see poly bag requirements) unless it is part of a set. Each purchase order is in separate carton. Multiple purchase orders must never ship in the same carton, even if the SKU numbers may be compatible. Carton packing is by SKU# (style, size and color). One SKU # per carton only. If necessary, you must use a cut down, short carton to complete each SKU, DO NOT MIX FINAL CARTON. Use a standard number of units per carton. Indicate partial cartons accordingly. Ship each purchase order complete unless pre-approved in writing by DMC. Where the quantity warrants it, ship on pallets with layered carton of like SKU's. Stretch wrap and label by pallet with copies of the Bill of Lading. No extra packaging is permitted to be shipped inside the cartons. This includes peanuts, airbags, crushed paper, silicone gel packets etc. All accessories that are subject to spill or leak must have a leak proof guard such as a sticker or shrink bands. Glass containers must be wrapped in bubble wrap. The price sticker must be placed on the product and on the outside of the bubble wrap as well. Poly Bag Requirements DM does not have nominated suppliers for polybags, Vendors should source polybags with their local suppliers and ensure all requirements outlined below are met: Poly bags used to protect DM product must made of RECYCLED CLEAR POLYETHYLENE material: Minimum.005 thick BHT FREE *The chemical BHT is strictly prohibited in poly bags. Closure should be hot seal. If not available, BHT FREE tape must be used to avoid discoloration of the garment Suffocation Warning exhibited on one side (Center Front) of polybag. All flat pack apparel (including panties and swim) product ships in poly bag with style sticker. Bras are the only product that ship flat pack with hanger [face down] in poly bag. *Occasionally select styles/sets may require a hanger. ALL scenarios will be advised in the DeSL tech pack. Page 1
MIN/MAX BELOW ARE MANDATORY FOR FLAT PACKED PRODUCT TO FIT DM SORTING EQUIPMENT: Polybag Sealed with Product Minimum Maximum Apparel: 4 x 8 13 x 22 Outerwear: 4 x x 28 Bras/Foundations /Panties: 4 x 4 13 x 13 Accessories: 2 x 2 13 x 28 Polybag Sealed with Product Minimum Maximum Weight: 0.5 lbs. 5 lbs. Excess space within the polybag that allows for the product to shift/move excessively is strictly prohibited. *See below examples of apparel and bra product: INCORRECT CORRECT Page 2
INCORRECT CORRECT The proper folding method of each product is detailed in the DM PLM tech pack. The product should fit the polybag without any excess room around the perimeter of the garment. *Reference CORRECT image above. The appropriate polybag sizes must be ordered to fit the final folded product including all sizes in the purchase order. *Note Vendors are permitted to additionally tape the polybag to achieve a perfect fit as long as the tape is BHT Free and the taping is neat and maintains uniform finished shape. DO NOT use straight pins on the product inside of the poly bag. DO NOT add a silicone gel packet with the product in the poly bag. DO NOT use any additional materials inside the poly bag such as tissue or inserts without the express permission of Destination Maternity Production team. Polybags sealed with product must fit neatly into the designated carton size. DO NOT package more than one product per polybag, unless the product is designated to be packaged as a set. Units sold as sets must be packaged within the same polybag. All product sealed in polybags must be ticketed, easily identifiable, and visible within the polybag. 7 Plastic Bag Suffocation Warning Suffocation warning (required by California, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island and Virginia) should be exhibited on all plastic bags. In addition to the English wording, the warning must also be present in French (Canada) and Spanish (Mexico). The suffocation warning translations required are exhibited below: WARNING! TO AVOID DANGER OF SUFFOCATION, KEEP THIS PLASTIC BAG AWAY FROM BABIES AND CHILDREN. DO NOT USE THIS BAG IN CRIBS, BEDS, CARRIAGES, OR PLAY PENS. THIS BAG IS NOT A TOY! AVERTISSEMENT! POUR ÉVITER LE DANGER DE SUFFOCATION, CONSERVER CE SAC EN PLASTIQUE LOIN DES BÉBÉS ET DES ENFANTS. NE PAS UTILISER CE SAC DANS LES BERCEAUX, LITS, VOITURES D ENFANTS OU PARCS. CE SAC N EST PAS UN JOUET! fre ADVERTENCIA! PARA EVITAR EL RIESGO DE ASFIXIA, MANTENGA ESTA BOLSA DE PLÁSTICO LEJOS DE LOS BEBÉS Y LOS NIŇOS. NO UTILICE ESTA BOLSA EN CUNAS, CAMAS, CARROS, O CORRALES. ESTA BOLSA NO ES UN JUGUETE! NOTE: The suffocation warning must be repeated at 18-inch intervals when the polybag length and width is greater than 40 inches. French Translation Spanish Translation Page 5
The warning statement must be printed in black legible type, in a prominent place on the bag, and the warning should be exhibited on CF of bag i.e.: Center Front. The printing technique must result in a label that will not smear. There should be no other printed matter on the polybag. Front Polybag DM best practice is to ensure the overall warning statement size is as large as possible and to call for WARNING! and THIS BAG IS NOT A TOY! pt. size to be much larger than the balance of the warning statement. This ensures the suffocation warning is as prominent as possible. Page 6
At a minimum the suffocation warning must meet the print size requirements exhibited below: Total Length plus Width of bag Minimum Print Size Required 60 inches or more 24 Point inches 18 Point inches 14 Point Less than 25 inches 10 Point Below example shows two different physical size polybags with suffocation warnings in different sizes. Both VENDOR A and VENDOR B polybag warnings meet the minimum pt. size requirements but look very different. *Vendor B polybag is the most prominent sized warning overall and is a good choice for adhering to DM best practice when determining overall size to achieve for the Suffocation Warning. VENDOR A VENDOR B *THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS FOR POLYBAG. VENDORS WHO DO NOT COMPLY WILL BE SUBJECT TO DM NON-COMPLIANCE CHARGE PLUS THE COST OF MATERIALS AND LABOR TO BRING PRODUCT INTO COMPLIANCE. Page 7
Carton Construction Requirements Carton weight must not exceed 40 pounds (18.1 kg). Corrugated wall must be double wall thickness and have a burst strength of 250lbs (113kg) Cartons must have the minimum edge crush (ECT) 45. Cartons must be labeled with their ECT and/or bursting strength certification by stamping the certification on the bottom of the carton. Asian Fiberboard is not permitted. The mandatory carton size is 24 inches long by 16 inches wide by 10 inches high. The footprint must always be 24 inches long by 16 inches wide. Carton height maximum is 10 high and minimum is 4 high. The following information is mandatory, to be printed, on the long side panels (maximum 24 inches long) of the cartons with actual measurements filled in: Net Weight in Kgs. Gross Weight in Kgs. Measure: (Carton Dimensions) A piece of cardboard at the bottom and inside the top of the carton is mandatory to protect the garments from being damaged when the carton is opened. NOTE: For the assembly of carton, security tape must be used. Tape must be at least 2.5 millimeter in strength and 3 inches wide and colored. The security tape can have the name of the factory, name of the agent, or Destination Maternity Corporation on it and a background color. All seams of carton must be sealed with security tape. Results of tape will form an I formation. Also, extend the tail of the tape 3 down the side on the short sides of the carton. Please see picture on opposite page for reference. Page 8
License Plated Carton Example (All Types of Product) All Vendors Must Comply The above illustration arrows show the placement of the Security Tape placed across the top and bottom of the carton and the Security Stickers placed in 3 sections of the top and bottom of the carton. Inspection sticker, at least 5.5 long x 2.5 wide, should be applied to the top and bottom of carton at the inspection of the seams of carton. Please see picture above for reference. Page 9
Carton Label Size and Quality Requirements The carton label size cannot exceed 4 x 7. Carton labels must be of thermal paper sticker stock and cannot be taped to the carton. Carton labels are affixed to both of the SHORT 16 sides of the cartons and must be centered. Carton label print information will be provided through the DM vendor portal system in the next section. All vendors are required to use this system for carton labeling. Carton Packing and Shipment Preparation Requirements Cartons cannot be over packed. Units inside must fit snugly and must not extend over the top or bottom of the cartons. All sides of the carton must be flat. Bowed cartons are non-compliant and will not transport through DM automation. Non-compliant cartons will be re-boxed. Cartons cannot be under packed. If units inside DO NOT fill the carton to capacity, the height of the carton must be reduced to fit the product to prevent crushing of carton in transit. Crushed cartons will not transport through DM automation. Non-compliant cartons will be reboxed. See below image: Page 10
For reduced height cartons please reference photo below for the label placement: The Carton labels must be placed in the center of each of the short ends of the carton. Please reference photo below for the correct label placement: Banding or strapping of freight is not permitted. Cartons should be shrink-wrapped to the pallet. Plastic bags wrapped around individual cartons are not permitted. Plastic carton liner inside cartons is not permitted. It is mandatory that each carton packed is signed or initial a chop by the appropriate responsible party. Page 11
After Sealing the Carton Please have the quality inspector (from your agency or representative) sign or ink chop the tops of the cartons that they have inspected at random. We require this so that if a carton has been reopened after sealing by the factory, we will know that carton was not tampered with by an outside source. We understand that some factories seal only the carton top with clear tape before moving it to a final controlled packing area for weighing and final counts. The carton is then opened, counted, checked and then resealed with security tape. The person doing this is an employee of the factory should sign the inside of the carton flap before security tape is affixed. VIOLATIONS TO THE PACKING OF THE CARTON WILL BE SUBJECT TO NON-COMPLIANCE CHARGES FOR SHIPMENT AND RE-PACKING. CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS REGARDING CARTON LABELS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO VENDOR RELATIONS at: vendorrelations@destinationmaternity.com Page 12
Carton Label System and Procedures The carton label system is for a vendor to create and maintain carton label information. Files are created on the DM web portal under the vendor s unique logon. The Vendor inputs the information to the carton label dashboard and updates the size and quantity of each carton. Two labels are created for each carton and each label contains a scan-able barcode and readable information. These steps must be completed to be complying.
