2 Belt Cloud Pick-up Statiions design on Berlin Site by Chu Hao & Du Jin We proposal our Belt Cloud Pick-up station design based on some problems that we find out during the processing of E- commerce shopping: First, one has to be at home when the deliveryman comes. If you happen to be not in, then you will miss it. And as the survey reveals, this home-delivery-service is thought to be unsafe for both customers and deliverymen 1. Then some may choose their workplace to receive their goods, which means the building where they work has to provide such a place to complete the delivery receiving. However not each building has such room. The worse is that normally you are not able to try what you buy immediately and at weekends you could not get what you want. Most importantly, with more people do E-shopping at home, less social communication happened on streets in daily life. Above all are our starting pointing of our proposal, the Belt Cloud pick-up stations. Our design are rested on Berlin Site
3 CONVEYOR BELT Area for Sending & Picking Up Goods & Returning Goods Café, Bar & Experience Store Area for Trail & Package Collection and Recycling The stations make use of the vacant places and empty buildings in Berlin. This example is a vacant triangle-shape corner near Tiergarten S-Bahn Station, within students dormitory area. The form of the conveyor belt corresponds to the site shape, and this belt in the air gives shape to the whole station. Under this Belt Cloud are generally three functional areas: One is café bar, where people could meet here sharing their online-shopping experience or second-hand exchanging. And this area is also combined with the experience store for displaying something new. The other one is for sending, picking up and returning goods. Deliveryman puts goods here and sends the customer a E-Code, and the receiver pick things here with the E-Code. Another one is the area for trail, and some private small rooms are here as fitting rooms for example. And what s more, if you are satisfied with the goods, you can leave all the packages here for recycling. 4 5
4 Campus Area: TU-Berlin, The Big Pipe Residential Area: Tiergarten, A Vacant Corner Office Area: Jannowitzbrucke, Under the Railway On Vacant Places Between Buildings Then in the context of the Berlin city, we try to find such vacant places and unused buildings to build our stations in 3 types of areas: the Campus where students can pick goods at school, the residential area which near people s home, and office area which near people s workplace. Some examples are illustrated: the pipe building of TU- Berlin, this empty corner in students dormitory area near Tiergarten station and the Jannowitzbrucke Station with a lot of embassies e.g. the Chinese and Dutch embassies nearby. The task is to find such similar spots in Berlin, and then these stations create a system network serving for the post-retail city. On Elevated Ground Floor Use of Empty Buildings More diagrams indicates how these belts change and fit in different contexts, just like clouds moving in the air. To design these stations can be summarized that first a flowing belt is built according to the specific site, then a surface is added around the belt, finally several functions are combined inside and outside this surface. 6 Under Railways 7
5 So the case of the Pipe Building in TU-Berlin, the belt is just designed in this big pipe moving in a circle. After school students come here, go across the bridge and pick up their packages. Then they can have some cafe and even climb upstairs to find something new in the experience store. 8 9
6 While the future of the Jannowitzbruke station, the area under the railway can be fully used. Nowadays it is really a pity that people can not access to the river. With the station filled in, people after work can come here to pick goods and at the same time access to and enjoy the riverfront
