In the Works Magaya WMS Mobile Now Supported on Multiple Handheld Devices Magaya WMS has been updated to support more handheld devices. In addition to support for the Motorola MC3000 and MC3090, Magaya WMS Mobile software can now be run on the MC9000 series and MC5500 series from Motorola and the Honeywell (Dolphin) 6100 and The purpose of this development is to allow our customers to have a wider range of devices to choose from to meet their business objectives. A deep change was made to the software infrastructure to enable it to dynamically adapt to any screen configuration of the devices. The Motorola MC9000 series are very sturdy and powerful devices that can scan a bar code at a distance of several feet. The Motorola MC5500 series are very sophisticated and have added functionality such as a camera that can take high resolution pictures; it can be used as a cellular phone; and it has integrated GPS capabilities, among other features. The Honeywell 6100 and 6500 are affordable options that can be purchased for less than one thousand dollars with all the necessary capabilities to run a WMS application.

If you have more than one warehouse, you can create a Move Task and send it to the Magaya WMS Mobile handheld devices to load the cargo into a truck, transfer it to another warehouse, and place it in a new location there. The best thing about this feature is that you can keep track of the items at all times by defining the trucks as your mobile locations in your Magaya database. This warehouse transfer feature is available for the Magaya Supply Chain Solution, Magaya Commerce System, and Magaya WMS. trucks in. The names must be unique. Close that list, and return to the Locations list. 2. In the Locations list, click the Add button and add the information for each truck. Assign the Type as Mobile and the Zone as Mobile Locations. Move the cargo from the location in the warehouse to be loaded to the truck via the Magaya WMS Mobile handheld devices. 2. Move the loaded items in the truck to the other facility (the destination warehouse). A Warehouse Transfer document can be printed and used as a Straight Bill of Lading. 3. The cargo is unloaded from the truck at the receiving location in the destination warehouse via a Move Task performed on the handheld devices. This Move task can be created when the Warehouse Transfer transaction has a status of In Transit. This feature works using existing concepts in Magaya WMS such as warehouse zones and locations. First, you need to define each warehouse facility in your organization as a warehouse zone and define the warehouse locations within each zone. Second, each truck must be entered as a mobile location in your system. Set Up Steps: Add the Warehouse and Mobile Locations to your Magaya Database 1. Go to Warehousing > Locations > Actions, and select Warehouse Zones from the pop-up menu. In the Warehouse Zone list, create two zones: one for the warehouse, and one zone called Mobile Locations, for example, to place all your Steps to Transfer Cargo: 1. Go to the Cargo Movement List in the Warehousing folder to create a Move Task. (A Move can also be created in the Warehouse Inspector by clicking the Move button.) 2. Click the Add button. The Cargo Movement Wizard opens. 3. Follow these steps in the wizard: In the first screen of the wizard, select the cargo items to transfer to another warehouse. You can move individual pieces or multiple items. This example shows items selected from the Miami Warehouse, Zone A:

Next a Task dialog box opens when you finish the last screen in the Cargo Movement wizard.

Assign the Move task to a WMS Mobile user. (You can also click Commit changes right away.

) Select the Movement Type: Transfer. The system will create the Warehouse Transfer document automatically.

3 Page 3 In the next screen, select the destination location. This example shows the destination is the Receiving area in the Houston Warehouse: Click Finish. Next a Task dialog box opens when you finish the last screen in the Cargo Movement wizard. You can assign the Task to a mobile user and fill in other fields as needed: In the last screen of the Cargo Movement wizard: Assign the Move task to a WMS Mobile user. (You can also click Commit changes right away. This will assign a status of Completed to the Move in your database and show the items in the destination location.) Select the Movement Type: Transfer. The system will create the Warehouse Transfer document automatically. Select the Mobile Location (the truck in this example is HCT1, HiCube Truck 1). The system automatically updates the status of the Warehouse Transfer transaction throughout the process. The status of the items remains On Hand and the items are available to be used in Cargo Releases or shipments. The following defines each status of the Warehouse Transfer transaction:

4 Page 4 Pending: The task was just created, and items have not been loaded in the truck ( mobile location ). Loading: Some items are loaded in the truck, and some items are still in their original location. In Transit: All the items are loaded in the truck. Unloading: Some items are in the truck, and some items are in the destination location. Completed: All the items are in the destination location. Create a New Move Task to Receive the Items at the Destination Warehouse: When the transferred items arrive at the destination warehouse, create another Move Task from the Warehouse Transfer document view (in the Cargo Movement subfolder) for the WMS Mobile user to perform at the destination warehouse so the items can be removed from the truck and placed in their new location at the destination warehouse. This Move can only be created if the Warehouse Transfer transaction has a status of In Transit. In the Warehouse Transfer document view, click the Actions button, and select Create Unloading Move Task. Assign the task to a WMS Mobile user, and the system will add all the items from the Warehouse Transfer into the Task for you. The WMS Mobile user performs the Move task, removing the items from the truck and putting them in their new location. This completes the transfer and updates your database with a status of Completed. You can create reports about the Cargo Movement tasks by clicking on the Actions button in the list view. Run reports by status, Cargo Movement number, division, or destination. This new feature in Magaya software is designed to make it easier to transfer items between warehouses and to help you keep accurate records of all cargo items and their locations at all times.

7 Gava IFC At a Glance Gava IFC USA Industry Logistics Provider Solution Magaya Cargo System Gava International Freight Consolidators (IFC) USA is a freight forwarder and NVOCC based in Miami, FL. They are part of the Gava Group of Milan, Italy. Gava IFC offers air and sea transport of freight to South America and handles customs documentation for exports. Challenges Everybody loves success, but maintaining that success isn t always easy. Gava IFC of Miami has the kind of upward growth and success many companies dream of. They started 10 years ago in a small office space without a warehouse. Since then, they have grown every year, even during the global recession. Today they have their own 18,000 square-foot warehouse and office with an air and ocean division. The vice president of Gava IFC, Massimo Cacace, started working for the parent company, the Gava Group, at its headquarters in Milan, Italy. He then transferred to the United States as the company expanded, and eventually helped the company open the Miami office in He combines his international experience and cosmopolitan perspective to maintain the company. The challenges of success require plenty of work. As he explains, It s hard to grow, but easy to crash. Mr. Cacace manages it by keeping an eye on how the business is doing to best manage the rate of growth and by staying in touch with customers to know their needs. Keeping in Touch With the Business At Gava IFC of Miami, 95 percent of their business is shipping all kinds of freight to South American countries such as Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Mr. Cacace travels frequently to these countries to visit his customers and agents. I want to hear from the customers. They are the best thermometer to tell you how you are doing. What I hear from them is Be elastic. Be open-minded. We listen to their needs and act as a filter between the shippers here in the US and the consignee in Latin America. I explain to customers how the process works, especially how to meet compliance regulations such as C-TPAT, which is one of the certifications we have. It takes time and flexibility to develop these relationships, but in the end, this is what separates us from others. The other US branches of the Gava Group are in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The Miami branch receives orders from Gava Group s Latin America offices and its US offices. Gava IFC consolidates the shipments and exports them. They ship 1,500 containers per year via ocean and air. They have trucks for transporting containers to and from Miami International Airport and Port of Miami. Because of their growth and an increase in the volume of exports to Central and South America, Gava IFC needed a more efficient software program to help them handle the volume. In 2008 Mr. Cacace evaluated the Magaya Cargo System after hearing about it from other companies and seeing the documents they created. Since our business is mostly exports, the export features in Magaya software are very helpful for us. The fact that the Warehouse Receipts are linked automatically to accounting in the Magaya software helps us because of the volume we are handling. The other freight forwarding software Gava IFC was using was slow and time consuming. For example to calculate a cost in six or seven different shipments that belong to one consolidation, the Magaya system will split the cost for you. In the other program, we had to calculate the cost per House, going one by one. That took a lot of time. With the volume we have today, there is no way we could handle that process with the same amount of people. Mr. Cacace also said this also enables Gava IFC to bill quickly and speed up the payment process. The Magaya database is linked to the Magaya LiveTrack, an interactive tracking tool that Gava IFC integrated into their website. In addition to ing documents such as Warehouse Receipts to customers from the Magaya system, current data and past transactions are also saved in the online tracking tool so a customer can look up

When Mr. Cacace travels, he accesses his Magaya database using the Magaya OnTheGo application for remote access. Another way Mr. Cacace keeps in touch with the state of the business is by generating reports in Magaya software. He creates accounting reports such as Profit and Loss, AP, AR, and other financial reports in the Magaya program daily. I look for the bottom line to see how the business is doing. The numbers do the talking. with us for a long time. We have very little turn over in employees or customers. That creates even more quality in our office and in the service we provide to customers. To help them provide quality service, the company and its employees also have many certifications such as the C-TPAT certification and hazardous materials handling certifications, ensuring their customers that the employees are well trained and will handle their cargo correctly. Providing Quality Service Cargo reports show the quantity of cargo that came in and was shipped out daily, how much was billed and what was the profit. The reports can be created easily in Magaya, enabling Mr. Cacace to create reports two or three times a day. An Organized Warehouse is a Mirror of the Company Philosophy Being organized is another factor in the company s growth. They are very organized, so much so that when the TSA comes to do an inspection, they are in and out in 20 minutes. The office and warehouse are orderly with clearly labeled racks. At the receiving door, they use a PC and a handheld scanner to scan the bar codes of incoming boxes. They create a Magaya label in one color to place the box on a rack, and they use another color to print shipping labels when cargo is sent out, making it easy to see the status of a piece of cargo. The release of cargo is also carefully managed by using loading guides and the scanners to verify the packing lists. Before they had Magaya software, they manually created labels, a slow and error-prone process. The scanners reduce the margin of error, Mr. Cacace said. We like things to be organized. We avoid problems instead of having to fix problems after they happen. Team Work Takes Gava IFC to its Ten-Year Anniversary For a man who likes numbers, Mr. Cacace also knows the value of a good team. Our employees are our best asset. We work as a family, Mr. Cacace said. There are a lot of things the company does to promote team work. We hosted a golf tournament in Doral. We buy lunch for everyone so we all eat together and talk together. You have to work as a team. Many employees have stayed I have a responsibility to my employees, he said. Maintaining the health of our company has enabled people to keep their jobs in this tough economy. The employees of Gava IFC will celebrate its 10-year anniversary in the summer of Earlier in the year, they moved into this location from a smaller one. Mr. Cacace s journey has taken him from Italy to the U.S. and South America, mirroring the expansion of the company. The Gava Group was started by Mr. Pino Gazzetta and Mr. Fabio Vannucci who gave the company the first letters of each of their names in They started in a small office in Milan, Italy, a city known for fashion and design industry, and one of Europe s main transportation and industrial hubs. The Gava Group has grown to be an international company with locations on five continents. We are flexible, and we like the fact that Magaya software is flexible, Mr. Cacace said. We listen to the customers needs. How we handle freight depends on what the customer wants. We don t just do things one way. That is how we have managed to grow every year was very good, but 2009 was even better. Not many companies can say that. We hope to continue to grow at a manageable rate. That is the plan.
