3 Social Media & Marketing This section is designed to provide you with the tools necessary to assist in marketing your customer s restaurant. There are many forms of marketing in today s environment. There is the traditional marketing initiatives: Billboards, phones directories, print media, television, flyers, etc, as well as the digital mediums that are becoming more mainstream, such as Facebook, YELP, Google, YouTube, Twitter and Foursquare to just name a few. These mediums are typically less expensive, however require an engaged effort to effectively realize impact. It is very important to determine what marketing campaigns you are planning to use and once chosen, a continuous, focused use of the content will increase patron traffic. By using a variety of these techniques to call attention to your restaurant, you can significantly enhance your image throughout the community. Always remember that the best marketing program is delivering guest satisfaction through outstanding restaurant operations every day, one guest at a time. However, in addition to a well-run operation, using all forms of marketing can truly deliver more customers and increased sales and profits. The first steps to building a successful marketing plan are: Step 1: Choose your marking tool(s). Determine what marketing mediums you will chose to engage. A combination of some of the traditional marketing platforms, along with the digital (social) mediums will provide different avenues to market your restaurant, as well as offsetting some of the hard costs associated with the continuous management of these marketing mediums. Be prepared. Don t rush yourself. Be sure your store is in running order and your staff is hired and trained. Step 2: Establish a budget. Traditional marketing (print, tv, etc) have larger upfront costs and traditionally require renewals in order to continue in that marketing medium. While digital social marketing mediums may also require upfront costs, the renewal or ongoing marketing efforts may be less, as if effectively managed, your customers will help push along the marketing efforts of your restaurant with your customers own use of digital social media.
