2 [design] at JDI JDI is a boutique consultancy that brings emerging technologies to market. Our clients are science-driven companies on a mission. Our creative studio functions as an extension of our team and yours. We use design to build brands, reinforce comprehension, increase credibility and tell stories. 4 DELIBERATE OVERLAP We believe the best marketing transcends any single discipline. We ve built a hybrid creative department that looks at design challenges from the same side of the table as marketing. We re small, yet deliberately made up of subject matter experts, business-savvy designers and creative marketers who can play competently across the spectrum.

5 THE ART & SCIENCE The soul never thinks without an image. Aristotle Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. Steve Jobs The best design speaks the truth in unprecedented ways. From color to composition, it takes a message to places words alone cannot. Visuals can reach through language barriers, cross disparate mediums and even shape new cultures. Design quietly influences the world around us: our opinions, our choices and ultimately, our loyalties. Introducing the world to new categories requires building trust on all fronts. It is not enough to tell our audience what to think, we must also show them what that looks and feels like. The best designs in our market are data driven and customer-obsessed. We approach all design projects with respective outcomes in mind. We are in the business of tailoring solutions, not recycling popular trends. Design, build, measurement, analytics, and optimization must occur continually. The tighter the feedback loop, the better. If it s not working, we ll be the first to call it and suggest a new course.

7 BLUEJAYS ARE GANGSTER HERE WE GO What follows are frameworks that we use everyday to produce consistently great results.

8 CONTENT FIRST We believe content is king. We start with it, end with it, and obsess over it throughout the design and build process. Design is the vessel and the carrier for your message. Without content, design becomes decorative and meaningless. We have the discipline to start with content first and let it inform the art. This ensures our work meets the challenge for which it was employed.

9 THE COURAGE TO BE INCOMPLETE Psychology tells us that the right amount of scarcity is key. As cognitive burden increases, confidence in choice, no matter what the choice is, decreases. Good marketers know that prospects need to have a reason to look again, learn more, and reach out. Too many designs -- from logos to landing pages -- are burdened with too much responsibility. Design mustn t say say everything all at once, nor can it. We must have the courage to pick a message and say it well. What are we hanging our hat on? What questions should we deliberately beg? YOU HAVE TO GIVE PEOPLE A REASON TO LEARN MORE.

10 THE THEORY OF NEGATIVITY Sometimes the right answer is the most simple, straight-forward one. However, many times the answer is steeped in contradiction. We re big believers in the Theory of Negativity, which argues that we disproportionately remember the unexpected & forget the predictable. When brands and messages create tension by doing the unlikely, they are the best free advertisements on earth. LIKEWISE, WE RE GOING TO PUSH YOU TO EMBRACE THE UNEXPECTED.

11 OUR INNER TODDLER Don t tell me what you do, tell me what you do for me. In a constellation of brands, consumers choose the one that gives them the greatest benefit. Doing this effectively starts with understanding why your customer really needs your product. To get to these insights, we often channel our inner three year-old, incessantly asking why? to the point of exhaustion. We ll go through this process with you -- extracting, listening closely and building on what you already know until we hit the core. We deeply believe this applies to our relationship with you, too. It is only by fully questioning you, and by helping you articulate your more core values, that we can bring your story to life. What s really driving you? Your customer? Our collaboration?
