1 Workshop of Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) in Scanning Electron Microscope July 2017 School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) in scanning electron microscope is a powerful analytical technique for microstructural characterisation. It allows for local as well as bulk texture and grain structure studies of various crystalline materials such as metals and alloys, minerals, ceramics and semiconductors. EBSD has been widely applied in many fields such as aerospace, automobile, semiconductor, metals processing and mineralogy. On this workshop you will learn how to: Understand the capabilities and limitations of the EBSD technique Use the hardware and software components of the system Set up samples in the SEM and suitable acquisition conditions Become confident in routine data acquisition and processing Explore some of the more advanced capabilities of the system

4 SPEAKERS Dr Wu Jiang Dr Wu Jiang received his PhD in Materials Physics and Chemistry from Dalian University of Technology (China) and a co-joint PhD in Materials Science from Metz University (France). His research focused on nanostructures of Zr-based Bulk Metallic Glasses Induced by Ball Milling and High-current Pulsed Electron Beams, using characterization techniques including TEM, SEM (EDS+EBSD), XRD and DSC. After completing his PhD, Wu Jiang pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at Metz University, further developing his research. In 2011, Wu Jiang joined EDAX as Applications Specialist in their Shanghai office, China, servicing the clientele of the world s biggest manufacturing nation. During the course of his career in Shanghai, he supported customers from various industries including automotive, metals, polymers, nanotechnology, oil and gas, electronics and geology, leveraging on his background in Materials Sciences. Mr Ho Ai Kuan Wu Jiang is currently based at Oxford Instruments, Singapore, where he contributes his industry-specific expertise in EDS, EBSD and WDS to support the thriving manufacturing sectors in Southeast Asia.. Mr Ho Ai Kuan has experiences working with a leading university in Malaysia for electron microscopy (EM) in life sciences & materials as well as with FEI local distributor. He is an expert in ultra-microtomy He has participated in numerous em related trainings (Europe & Japan) & has conducted various workshops on sample preparation & EM.
