STADIUM: Smart Transport Applications Designed for large events with Impacts on Urban Mobility Demonstrator implementation India - WP5b: Background information Need to improve the performance of transport systems made available to a wide and differentiated range of users in the framework of large events hosted by big cities Transport mainly based on minivans (paratransit) and Mass transit System (Delhi Transport Corporation) Demonstration European ITS technologies in Delhi to be set for Commonwealth 2010 key factor to provide assessment on indicator for the Handbook and disseminate the results of STADIUM project

WP5b: Background information WP5b: Background information XIX ed. CWG 3-14 October, 2010 Organising Committee (OC) Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi came into being on 10 February 2005 Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 will feature 17 sports disciplines held at six venue clusters and five stand alone venues in Delhi.

WP5b: Background information The key stakeholders responsible for the successful delivery of the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 partners are: Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF); Indian Olympics Association (IOA); Organising Committee (OC); Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD); Government of India (GoI). Scope of work Develop, implement, test and execute the Delhi Demonstration during the Commonwealth Games 2010 and afterwards for long term impact assessment Main components: 1. infomobility system on fixed/mobile devices 2. Planning system for buses 3. real time monitoring system integrating buses and auto rickshaws

Existing ITS system Solution delivered by DIMTS 200 buses equipped with GPS GPS System has been implemented on three BRT lines and related routes Delhi leading stakeholders Ministry of Urban development Project coordination Possible support to house the Delhi demo centre CWG organizing committee propose area of interest for the demo give updates on transport strategies Ministry of Home affairs Support in lieu of security preparedness

Delhi Government support DTC provide info on bus lines (routes and schedules). use service planning Software to input info on more lines update the system when network and timetables change Make available vehicles with onboard GPS DIMTS: provide services to DTC, concession on BRT lines Infomobility system The infomobility system will include: Selection of CWG venue and info on relevant public transport options Info on specific bus and metro lines (routes, frequencies/timetable) Estimated arrival time at selected bus stops (for buses equipped with GPS) Info on paratransit service

Example of Infomobility system Planning / Real time monitoring system Planning functions The control centre displays in real time: Buses with onboard computers Position of paratransit with GPS (test fleet)

Delhi demonstrator : Basic concept Feeder Service (bus, paratransit ) Bus stop 1 Feeder Service (bus, paratransit ) Metro stop Metro stop Metro stop Feeder Service (bus, paratransit ) Bus stop 2 Feeder Service (bus, paratransit ) Bus stop 3 CWG Venue Delhi demonstrator : Architecture

Delhi demonstrator: information flow Benefits for stakeholders Ministry of Urban Development Demonstration of objective for strenghting public tranport with special emphasis of paratransit as per national urban transport policy Passengers Better access to public transport using ITS thanks to the information provided Paratransit drivers More business opportunities

Benefits for stakeholders Public Transport Company Real time monitoring Increased efficiency with cost reduction Improved fleet management and better usage of resources Municipality Increasedusageof the public transport Reduction of road congestions Reduction of pollution Increased management of paratransit Commonwealth Games Organization Commiittee Tool to improve passenger transportation to/from venues Sizing of the project Component Control centre Demo min. size 1 Scalable solution 1 Control Centre operators 2 Depends on number of lines and stations Bus lines for static service info 1 Depends on usage of service planning module by DTC Buses with GPS 40-50 from DTC Depends on number of further new vehicles purchased by DTC Auto rickshaws stations with site operators 5 depends on available resources for station operators GPS mobiles for autorickshaws drivers 20 Depends on investments
