Sydney Living Museums is one of a number of agencies administered through the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), reporting to the Minister for Heritage. OEH regulates industry, protects and conserves the NSW environment, manages over 850 national parks and reserves and protects the natural, cultural and built heritage in NSW. SLM provides custodial care for significant historic places, buildings, collections and landscapes with integrity, and enables people to enjoy and learn about them. SLM was established under the Historic Houses Act 1980 to manage, conserve and interpret the properties vested in it for the education and enjoyment of the public. SLM s portfolio includes houses, museums, landscapes, a library and collections of paintings, furniture and objects. SLM is managed through four Divisions Heritage & Collections, Curatorial & Public Engagement, Commercial & Marketing Services and Operations. SLM cares for 12 of the State's most important historic houses, museums and their collections: Elizabeth Bay House, Elizabeth Farm, Hyde Park Barracks Museum, Justice & Police Museum, Meroogal, Museum of Sydney, Rose Seidler House, Rouse Hill House & Farm, Susannah Place Museum, Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection, The Mint and Vaucluse House. All are listed in the NSW State Heritage Register. The Museum of Sydney and the Hyde Park Barracks are on the National Heritage list, with Hyde Park Barracks also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. SLM s portfolio assets are valued at more than $244 million including buildings, land and museum collections. It also maintains 38 hectares of land including public spaces, farmland and gardens, as well as infrastructure such as roads, farm dams, 8 kilometres of fences and gates. The agency collects, catalogues and conserves material relating to core themes of domestic material culture, the history of art, architecture and design, and aspects of Sydney s social history related to its sites. The collections held at museums are valued at more than $29 million and comprise 250,000 archaeological artefacts, more than 47,500 objects, more than 130,000 glass-plate negatives, a library collection and a growing digital collection all of cultural significance to the history of NSW. 1

The Commercial & Marketing Services Division sets and drives the revenue-generating strategies for SLM and, is responsible for implementing strategies designed to grow audiences and increase public awareness and perceptions of SLM. The Division comprises the Commercial Services (including venues, leaseholds and retail), Marketing & Communications, Audience Research, and Development & Fundraising Teams. The Marketing and Communications Team is accountable for providing strategic direction and implementation of marketing and communications (including media and Public Relations) strategies to grow audiences, increase revenue and build brand awareness and value for SLM through marketing, design and communications activities. The team works across traditional and new media to raise awareness of the activities of the organisation and to ensure strong communication to a range of audiences, both internal and external. The team serves as brand custodian for SLM to ensure that the brand strategy is realised and executed as envisioned. Primary purpose of the role Prepare and implement integrated marketing strategies that deliver against visitation and audience development objectives for Sydney Living Museums. Undertake marketing activities to ensure that all activity is delivered to a high standard and enhances SLM s brand and image. Key accountabilities Work cooperatively with a range of internal and external professionals to develop and deliver simultaneous, integrated marketing communications campaigns promoting Sydney Living Museums, its properties, exhibitions, public programs, learning programs and membership. Within a collaborative environment develop and implement strategic marketing plans that utilise all elements of the marketing mix including traditional advertising, digital and online marketing, social media, direct marketing, partner and relationship promotions. Develop and coordinate content, copy, design, production and placement of marketing, advertising, media, communications and promotional collateral to meet the agency s brand positioning, effectively engage different market segments, and ensure legislative and regulatory compliance. Prepare effective creative briefs to support the design, photography and video requirements of the agency and its campaigns and manage the delivery of brief requirements. Monitor all marketing briefs to ensure project objectives are clearly identified and target groups are outlined. Undertake research, analysis and prepare evaluation reports to assess return on investment of marketing campaigns and inform future marketing and communication activities. Collaborate to execute digital marketing and online marketing activities to ensure full integration with the agency s engagement strategies. Prepare campaign budgets, forecasts and reports to provide documentation on the campaigns affordability and effectiveness. Direct reports Nil Budget/Expenditure Nil Essential requirements Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated current knowledge of and experience in developing and implementing successful integrated marketing communications campaigns that achieve objectives for exhibitions, events or products preferably within an arts/cultural/heritage organisation. Demonstrated expertise and experience in developing and implementing successful marketing campaigns using a wide range of media including up to date and intimate knowledge of marketing practices and principals Knowledge, experience in and competent use of marketing related software and technology including CMSs, e-marketing tools and social media. Experience in the development, execution and evaluation of successful publicity strategies and a proven ability to source and build strong media relationships. Wide ranging experience planning and producing marketing and communication materials targeting diverse audience segments utilising a range of media, as well as superior written communication skills with demonstrated experience in the development of copy for marketing collateral in print, electronic and digital. Experience in market research practices, identifying and working with market segments, preparing market research briefs and evaluating research outcomes. Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise and meet strict deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills, with highly developed written and oral communication skills, and proven ability to work with creative and diverse teams with a commitment to superior customer service delivery.
