This includes the planning and management of building upgrades, major plant acquisitions, systems maintenance, relevant legislative compliance, accommodation and relocations, telecommunications, as well as all aspects of the Museum s security and emergency management. Key accountabilities Manage the effective operation and service delivery of the Building and Security Services branch. Ensure the security of the Museum s buildings and collections, as well as leading the emergency management response to incidents Ensure that the Australian Museum complies with all relevant legislation and polices. Provide leadership and direction to the team to motivate staff and foster a commitment to quality customer service Proactively implement policies and practices to ensure management of facilities and provision of related services that are responsive to the changing environment Manage permanent or/or ad hoc teams to ensure project outcomes are achieved. Key challenges Balancing multiple priorities and resources in security, maintenance and repairs, capital works programs at the same time to ensure outcomes are delivered within identified time frame and budget. Delivering effective outcomes in an environment compromised by heightened security environment, aging plant and facilities, buildings with various levels of compliance, increasing costs and a greater impact of legislative standards/controls 1
2 Providing advice, analysis and services to ensure the Museum is fully supported through the effective management of facilities and security Key relationships Who Internal Associate Director, Corporate Resources & CFO Building Services & Security Team Museum Internal teams External Vendors/Service Providers Why Escalate issues, keep informed, advise and receive instructions Inspire and motivate team, provide direction and manage performance Participate in meetings to share information and project programming Participate in discussions and decisions regarding implementation of best practice and innovation in delivery of outcomes Participate in meetings to share information and project programming Negotiate contracts and service agreements Manage contracts and monitor provision of services to ensure compliance Role dimensions Decision making This position has a high level of autonomy and makes decisions that impact on the safety, security and comfort of staff and visitors. On a day to day basis the position holder will make independent decisions on building/plant maintenance and repairs, implementation of capital works programs, contracts, scheduling and allocation of staff and financial resources. This includes management of staff in the Section in relation to performance and allocation of duties and projects. Importantly the position acts as an incident controller during any major incident and accordingly assumes effective control of emergency operations during the life of the incident. 3 Essential requirements 1. Capacity to design and implement building management strategies, total asset management plans, policies and practices for the Australian Museum to ensure management of facilities and provision of related services that are responsive to the changing environment. 2. Extensive experience in physical security systems and CCTV, emergency management, building plant and equipment management, particularly air conditioning, fire detection, sprinklers, gas suppression and others 3. Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this Role Description 4. Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated, equivalent, relevant professional experience.
