Implementation Guideline for DESADV D07A 3 (19) 1 Introduction This implementation guideline explains how Volvo Cars applies EDI ASN (Advance Shipping Notice) sent from suppliers to Volvo Cars plants and warehouses for batch deliveries, based on EDIFACT DESADV D07A. The EDIFACT message, DESADV D07A, is defined in the corresponding message specification. Note! This Implementation Guideline (DESADV D07A) shall be used for all non-european suppliers and European suppliers delivering in Full Container Loads (FCL) to Volvo Cars Charleston Plant in US. European suppliers (including Turkey and Morocco) supplying via Volvo Cars Consolidation Centers shall implement DESADV D96A. Volvo Cars have a truly global supply chain, with parts supply from a global supplier base to production plants and warehouses located on different continents. To be able to manage and control this supply chain, and for enabling an efficient goods reception process, suppliers must populate and send the ASN in accordance to the message specification and this implementation guideline. Packages shall be labeled according to applicable label specifications (OTL1 is only used in examples in this Guideline). 2 General ASN requirements 2.1 Creation of the ASN The ASN message is an electronic version of the delivery note document. The delivery note document and the corresponding ASN shall describe delivery conditions and content of goods, which is sent from a supplier to a designated place of discharge at one specific occasion. An ASN shall not be created before the actual loading procedure is completed into an assigned means of transport and no later than one hour after the goods have been shipped. If the weight/ volume of goods, defined in a particular shipment, is too large according to available transport capacity, it is necessary to split the shipment (Delivery note) and send ASN messages according to the actual shipments. 2.2 Information content and structure of the DESADV ASN From an information content and structure perspective, the DESADV ASN can be divided into the following two sections: Segments for header data Segments for package and part data
Implementation Guideline for DESADV D07A 4 (19) 2.3 Description Application of segments for header data Header data segments describes general information for the ASN. Depending on the mode of transport and the setup of the supply chain, data segments shall be populated in different ways. A guideline how header segments shall be populated is presented below. Implementation Guideline for DESADV D07A 5 (19) 2.4 Description Application of segments for package and part data Segments for package and part data describes the actual content of delivered goods in aspect of packaging, package IDs and part related information. Volvo Cars supports the following packaging scenarios for batch deliveries: S-Package Transport unit or a box with one part number M-Package Transport unit with boxes containing same part number. Individual boxes are defined as S-Package. G Package Transport unit with boxes containing different part numbers. Individual boxes are defined as S-Package. The actual packaging scenarios for a delivery defines exactly how the ASN message shall be structured. The diagram and text below, describes how data for package and part data shall be populated and structured. SG10 CPS SG17 CPS and underlying segments shall be repeated: Per part number If a part number shall be delivered to multiple internal destinations (LOC+159) If a part number has multiple purchase orders (RFF+ON) LIN SG11 SG18 SG20 PAC PIA QTY ALI GIN FTX RFF LOC QTY SG13 PCI RFF SG14 GIR SG15 GIN PAC and underlying segments shall be repeated: If a part number is packed in different packaging types If a part number is packed in the same packaging type, but in different quantities PCI and underlying segments shall be repeated: If a part number is packed in boxes and stuffed on more than one transport unit If a part number have different batch numbers
Implementation Guideline for DESADV D07A 6 (19) If goods are classified as dangerous goods, according regulations for the actual mode of transport, part numbers shall be marked as dangerous goods by indicating AAC in segment group 17 in the FTX segment. 3 Examples of different supply chain and packaging scenarios 3.1 Examples Application of segments for header data Header data segments describes general information for the ASN. Depending on the mode of transport and the setup of the supply chain, data segments shall be populated in different ways. See section 2.3 for a guideline how header segments shall be populated. 3.1.1 Truck transports and intercontinental LCL supply chains The basic level of the ASN application is applicable for the following supply chain scenarios: Domestic and continental transports, normally arranged via truck transports. LCL Less than Container Load (normally intercontinental) transports via multimodal transports. The example below, of ASN header records, illustrates an application of truck transports. Implementation Guideline for DESADV D07A 8 (19) 3.1.3 Premium transports Under exceptional occasions, the transport needs to be performed as a premium transport, with shorter transportation lead time than the ordinary transport. Premium transports can be arranged as air transports or rush truck transports. Supplier must create correct ASNs also for premium transports. The example below, of ASN header records, illustrates an application of air transports.
