SIMOWOOD a brief introduction 3
4
Rice husks as base material - 100% no wood and 100% no WPC 5
Products beeing used until now have disadvantages Wood: Splinters and cracks Does not maintain original colour, grays over time Natural cell structure (lignin) results in water absorption Moisture results in deformation Rots and is prone to fungal decay Is time consuming and expensive to maintain Not a sustainable resource, especially tropical hardwood 6
Tropical hardwood danger of extinction a raw material in 7
Products beeing used until now have disadvantages Wood Substitutes Drawbacks of wood were addressed with wood substitutes such as Wood Plastic Composites (WPC), but they still have many disadvantages: Synthetic look and cheap plastic feel Due to the presence of lignin, moisture is still absorbed, and hence WPC warps, grays and rots over time Very difficult to apply any kind of surface coating Color is normally impregnated into the material and once damaged or faded is irreparable Difficult to work on with regular woodworking tools Normal WPC does not respond well to adhesives There is no WPC sheet available on the market 8
