EVENT MANAGER April 2016 1
About Alexandra Palace and the Role Contents Alexandra Park was opened in 1863 as a leisure destination for Londoners and was created as a trust by Act of Parliament in 1900. In 1967 a court case established that the Trust was charitable, and it was registered with the Charity Commission in 1981. Today Alexandra Palace is surrounded by 196 acres of Grade II listed parkland and offers unprecedented views of the city. The multi-award winning destination maintains its original enterprising spirit by hosting an eclectic mix of live music, sport, cultural and leisure activities. Last year the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded 18.6million of funding towards the East Wing restoration project, which focusses on restoring the Palace s most significant historic spaces to their former glory and securing the Palace s future as one of London s leading destinations. Under the plans, the eastern end of the Palace, comprising the BBC Studios and the Victorian Theatre will be repaired and refurbished. In 2015 Alexandra Palace hosted 31 nights of live music in the 10,000 capacity Great Hall including The Prodigy, Axwell ^ Ingrosso, Florence + The Machine, Rudimental, Major Laser, Faithless, Chvrches and Disclosure. These nights contributed to a total of 180 events held throughout the year which ranged from established exhibitions such as the Knitting and Stitching Show, the competitive such as World Championship Darts and Masters Snooker, to the innovative and breathtaking, including the Redbull Soapbox Race and Alexandra Palace s Firework Festival.
