Pancreatic cancer is the tenth most common cancer in the UK, with 9,400 people diagnosed each year. For decades pancreatic cancer has remained on the side-lines, with survival rates stuck at 3%, and only 1.4% of the total cancer research spend 1 dedicated to beating the disease. But things are changing. We ve seen the start of positive change in treatment and care for pancreatic cancer patients. Today five year survival rates across the UK are at around 5%, that s 180 more people each year surviving for five years or more. We will have the first ever national pancreatic cancer clinical guidelines to aid those involved in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. And UK research investment has now reached 10 million a year. We have much more to do. We will work to increase research spend to a game changing 25 million, with 10 million raised by our own team in the next five years. We will campaign for improved access to treatments, and better care for everyone with the disease. We will double the reach of our flagship service, the Pancreatic Cancer UK Support Line. Job Description Fundraising Compliance Manager Reporting to: Director of Fundraising and Marketing Background Pancreatic Cancer UK is a small but busy charity, funding research into the disease, providing services for those diagnosed and their families and campaigning to achieve change. We are at a transformative stage of development - our organisation is growing rapidly, we are starting to make real and impactful changes to pancreatic cancer in the UK, and we are embarking on a new Fundraising strategy which aims to grow our income so that we can fund even more vital work The Fundraising Compliance Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring that supporters interests are right at the heart of our fundraising systems, processes and procedures and that the charity fundraises with confidence. The Post This post is a new position at the organisation. The role of Fundraising Compliance Manager has been created to ensure our fundraising activities operates smoothly and compliantly. You ll work closely with our Fundraising Team as well as the wider organisation on best practices and guidelines, and will have responsibility for fundraising compliance leadership. You ll be familiar with both the current and evolving regulatory landscape and will ensure that, as fundraisers, we re meeting the relevant data protection, recording and reporting requirements. Working with the Director of Fundraising and Marketing, and the Heads of, you ll implement approaches which will ensure we are GDPR compliant and help develop awareness, best practice and culture that makes all of the Fundraising Team take responsibility for compliance as the foundation for providing a high-quality, supporter-focussed approach. Main responsibilities Managing compliance Keep up to date on regulations and GDPR developments, general emerging issues relating to compliance and best practice in the sector. Liaise with external bodies such as the Information Commissioner s Office, Fundraising Regulators, Charity Commission and the Institute of Fundraising on compliance issues. Audit current practices at Pancreatic Cancer UK and recommend improvements relating to compliance. Review data handling procedures within fundraising to ensure compliance and that data is being correctly used and stored. Fundraising Compliance Manager JD/PS April 17 Page 4 of 7
Lead and develop compliance related policies and procedures in order to minimise non-compliance risk to the charity, and to manage the implementation of these across the organisation. Ensure all policies and procedures are fully documented and implemented. Ensure that the Fundraising team comply with all the relevant regulatory and policy requirements relating to fundraising activity. Conduct research in order to obtain information that can further improve Pancreatic Cancer UK s understanding of fundraising compliance. To act as a first point of contact for resolutions and queries and be a central resource that supports all teams around fundraising compliance. Internal Procedures To update the Fundraising Team on information about regulations and to develop and facilitate training for them on compliance. Work with staff across the organisation to identify any data protection and compliance issues and lead on any action required Work closely with the Information Governance working group on cross over issues relating to data protection and compliance. Proactively identify compliance weaknesses and issues, and generate solutions for improvements that can be integrated into daily processes and procedures. Lead and manage the Fundraising Regulations working group in order to improve procedures and practices across the organisation. External procedures Review and update compliance clauses in contract for third party events and suppliers. Act as a voice for Pancreatic Cancer UK in working groups with external bodies and generate discussions around compliance concerns. Develop relationships with fellow charity sector Compliance Managers to network and share best practice. Monitoring impact To monitor and enforce compliance standards and to conduct regular reviews of this. Report and update Fundraising Compliance internally to staff, Senior Management Team and Trustees when required. Prepare monthly monitoring reports on compliance needs, highlighting areas of non-compliance that require action. Update the risk register on a regular basis. Keep an up to date incident register. General Develop a fundraising compliance and risk strategy the supports our business strategy and helps us to maximise income from supporters. PERSON SPECIFICATION Fundraising Compliance Manager Qualifications/experience At least three years experience within a Compliance Manager role. Experience of creating and implementing compliance processes. Experience of auditing existing practices and reporting on compliance. Experience of improving efficiency and supporter experience within the compliance framework. Knowledge, skills and abilities An in-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant rules and regulations relating to compliance and data protection. Proven leadership skills, with the ability to drive change in organisational culture. Proven ability to document and convey complex information effectively to others using appropriate language. Ability to prioritise and plan your workload effectively. Ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders. Proven excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to present, engage, and influence other effectively at all levels. An understanding of fundraising and the importance of supporter engagement in order to understand the implications of proposed changes. Good IT skills with the ability to use Excel, Word and Outlook and ideally knowledge of the Raisers Edge database. Personal qualities Comfortable working in an environment that continues to evolve and show flexibility in your approach to this. Confidently influence and drive change.
