ROLE SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND Fixed Term Contract to 31 July 2015. Under the supervision of the Volunteer & Societies Manager, DSU seeks a Peer Mentoring Coordinator to develop and deliver the peer mentoring programme for First Year Students entering De Montfort University and liaising and collaborating with key colleagues across campus. The post holder will also be required support the admin functions of the department including communicating with all volunteers and maintaining databases of records. You must have experience of working in the voluntary / community sector, delivering information, advice and guidance and have previously worked within an administrative position. Knowledge of the charitable sector and/or Students Unions would be advantageous. Experience of supervising and training volunteers and dealing with budgets / cash handling would also be desirable. JOB SPECIFICATION Job title: Department: Peer Mentoring Coordinator Volunteer & Societies Salary: 18,185-21,597 (Fixed term contract to 31 July 2015) Hours of Work: Responsible to: Supervision: Purpose of Post: 37 hours per week Volunteer and Societies Manager Mentors and Mentees Under the supervision of the Volunteer & Societies Manager, to develop and deliver the peer mentoring programme for First Year Students entering De Montfort University and liaising and collaborating with key colleagues across campus. To also support the admin functions of the department including communicating with all volunteers and maintaining databases of records. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To recruit, induct and place volunteer mentors and mentees into the peer mentoring programme. To monitor mentee s experience of mentoring, including their satisfaction of entry to DMU. To monitor volunteer s experience of mentoring, including their attendance and to deliver regular supervision and support to mentors. Maintain records of the placement of mentors and mentees, training activities, supervision notes and monitoring information. To advise on safe and realistic activities for mentors and mentees. To keep accurate records of student participation and maintain an up to date volunteer database, using appropriate in-house systems. To be responsible for collating and reporting on participation statistics, to conduct feedback surveys, focus groups and other evaluation methods and complete appropriate reports as directed by the Volunteer and Societies Manager. To perform Health & Safety assessments for mentoring activities as required, in accordance with DSU policy. To develop good working relationships with key colleagues across campus to contribute to the development and promotion of the project. To interpret monitoring data and produce and present evaluation reports at appropriate meetings. To contribute to meeting project and departmental targets and objectives.
To maintain rigorous Data Protection and confidentiality responsibilities for the department and review regularly in accordance with DSU policy. To oversee administrative systems for health and safety, including activity specific risk assessments and appropriate audit checks. To support the organisation of key events during the year including Freshers, the annual Celebration event and other Membership Services collaborative events as directed by the Volunteer and Societies Manager. If qualified, to act as a minibus driver when required to support participants of volunteering and support the Sports Development Coordinator to ensure all drivers are trained through the recognised procedure. To collaboratively work with all functions within the Membership Services department. Act as a DBS counter signatory for the Students Union. To cover the Volunteering Office in the absence of other personnel. Any other associated or similar duties that may be necessary from time to time as determined by the Volunteer and Societies Manager.
