To provide first line management of curriculum teams 2. To lead, develop and implement variety and innovation in teaching and learning approaches, helping to embed the use of e-learning across the curriculum area. 3. To ensure that all awarding body requirements are met. 4. To ensure the effective and efficient deployment of staff. 5. To undertake curriculum design and the implementation of quality systems. 6. To maintain and provide accurate and timely information in relation to students and curriculum. 7. To implement the College s student disciplinary policy and procedures as appropriate. 8. To achieve appropriate targets. 9. To prepare the team for internal and external inspection. 10. To ensure effective communication across the team, including formal meetings. 11. To ensure the health, safety and welfare of students and staff. 12. KEY ROLES 1. To provide an example of academic excellence within the curriculum team. 2. To undertake curriculum leadership of the area including monitoring of the effectiveness of the area in line with key performance indicators 3. To guide staff in the discharge of their curriculum duties across a range of innovative delivery models, and to promote innovative teaching and learning approaches. 4. To lead on the development of interesting and effective schemes of work, and to promote the use of ILT in curriculum delivery. 5. To ensure students are registered with the awarding body, and to meet all awarding body validation delivery and assessment requirements. 6. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of awarding body developments. 7. To allocate and monitor staff timetables, ensuring optimum deployment of staff giving effective and efficient utilisation within the terms of contracts. 8. To ensure that there is effective cover for any absent staff. 9. To ensure the internal and external validation of all proposed curriculum products and delivery models prior to course commencement. 10. To provide curriculum quality assurance in the design process, and to implement college quality systems and processes. 11. To embed a process of continuous improvement within curriculum provision, and to maintain in-depth knowledge of the overall quality of programmes in the curriculum area. 12. To produce the Self Evaluation Report for the curriculum area. 13. To provide and act upon data relating to student and course performance. 14. To provide information in response to routine management requests. 15. To commit to and implement the college s student disciplinary policy Page 2 of 6
and procedures, promoting and supporting appropriate standards of student behaviour. 16. To manage courses efficiently and effectively to deliver the agreed targets. 17. To lead the team in their preparation of documentation for internal and external inspection, ensuring that staff are fully prepared. 18. To effectively communicate with staff, ensuring that formally required meetings are held and minuted. 19. To ensure appropriate team representation in cross college forums. 20. To undertake all relevant teaching duties including preparation, delivery and assessment. 21. To liaise with awarding bodies and other external agencies as appropriate. 22. To take appropriate responsibility for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults. Qualifications 1.1 A relevant degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification. 1.2 A full teaching qualification (TQFE or equivalent) 1.3 Evidence of continuous professional development. 2. Previous Experience and Job Knowledge 2.1 Significant experience of teaching and leadership in the curriculum area. 2.2 Recent experience of assessing qualifications in the curriculum area. 2.3 In-depth knowledge and understanding of the qualifications offered in the curriculum area. 2.4 Experience of developing Self Evaluation Reports 3. Skills (Competencies and Aptitudes) 3.1 An ability to develop and motivate team members. 3.2 Well developed communication and presentation skills. 3.3 Excellent written and oral skills. 3.4 Genuinely innovative and open to new ideas and change. 3.5 The ability to introduce new ideas into curriculum development. 3.6 Excellent knowledge of awarding body requirements for qualifications within this curriculum area. 3.7 An understanding of the importance of success rates and the impact of these on the organisation. 3.8 The ability to analyse and quantify data. 4. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Knowledge of the Further Education sector, in particular policy developments and funding arrangements in relation to issues which will impact upon personnel in the Scottish FE environment. 4.2 A sound understanding of the safeguarding agenda.
