Job Title: Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer Salary: Grade 12-36,019-38,789 Hours: Full Time, Permanent, 37 hours per week, 29 days holiday per annum (plus bank holidays). Some flexibility regarding to out of hours working will also be required. Key Purpose of Role: The will be responsible for ensuring that the educational sites across our multi academy trust are fit for purpose and that they support excellent outcomes for young people and staff by being well-maintained, safe and welcoming. Currently the Vale Academy Trust (based in the Vale of White Horse in South Oxfordshire) comprises of seven local academies: five primary academies and two secondary academies. The trust is set to grow over the next few years with more local schools joining the Trust. Detailed information about the Trust can be found on our website: www.vale-academy.org Key Duties: Health and Safety Ensuring that current Health and Safety legislation is understood, implemented and monitored across all sites and that regular reports are produced for key stakeholder groups. Ensuring that the s Health and Safety Policy is accurate and up-to-date and is reviewed regularly. To be committed to the growth and maintenance of a positive risk management culture across the Trust, assisting with staff training where necessary. Ensuring that all educational sites are compliant with all current legal and statutory requirements. Ensuring that all staff with any premises or site responsibility are appropriately trained and qualified as required and to keep accurate records of staff professional development in areas linked to compliance and health and safety. Ensuring appropriate levels of security are maintained across our sites. Reviewing accident registers and reporting on a regular basis.
Capital Projects Producing and maintaining an accurate strategic plan of current and future capital projects so that funding can be allocated appropriately. This will be closely linked to condition surveys and reports from external agencies, consultants and other organisations with which the post holder would need to engage. Liaising with internal and external parties involved in capital projects and reporting regularly to all stakeholders on progress. Contracts Overseeing, under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, all contracts linked to services across our sites to ensure best value. Carrying out regular site visits and inspections and reporting findings to key stakeholder groups. Supporting individual academies with appointing outside contractors linked to premises issues (such as cleaning) to ensure that all Trust procedures are adhered to. Other Overseeing all building and refurbishment projects across sites, including the expansion or restructuring of sites. Ensuring the Asset Management list of plant, equipment and resources is current and kept up to date. Implementing and reviewing the Trust s wider plans for partial or full disaster recovery. Using best business practices to help reduce operational costs across all academies. Supporting individual academies with the appointment of key operational staff. Undertaking appropriate training in first Aid as required. Safeguarding The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The post holder will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young people and adults for who he/she is responsible, or with whom he/she comes into contact. You will be expected to adhere to and ensure compliance with the s Safeguarding Policy at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of any child or young person in the Trust, he/she must report any concerns to the appropriate members of staff within the Trust.
Person Specification Skills and Qualifications Essential A recognised Building Maintenance qualification at NVQ level 3 or an equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience A recognised Health and Safety qualification such as a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent or willingness to complete as soon as possible Knowledge of maintenance issues in respect of buildings Management proficiency in security systems, CCTV, access control and legislation Good knowledge of Fire Regulations and Health and Safety at Work legislation Knowledge of estate management and operations Good IT skills Experience Proven experience in a similar role managing a team of staff undertaking a range of maintenance and facilities services Experience of time management and priority planning to ensure projects run smoothly and to all regulatory requirements Proven experience of making key decisions in relation to facilities issues in accordance with health and safety and other regulatory requirements Experience of working in a student environment and a demonstrable commitment to the safety and welfare of children Proven success with project management ensuring projects are completed on time and on budget Proven experience of a tendering process for maintenance projects and capital improvement works Communication Skills Excellent communication skills The ability to produce accurate and regular reports for a variety of audiences Patience and Resilience Sense of humour is always helpful!
