3 As a result of the highly effective work of college leaders, teachers and support staff, students develop into confident, mature, and articulate young adults who are well prepared for their next steps. OFSTD 2016 The College recognises that in order to provide the highest standards, staff need support; whether that s through our induction programme for new members of staff, sharing good practice with colleagues, training and development opportunities, or support with options for retirement. The culture of the College means that teaching staff have the freedom and autonomy to develop their practice, bringing expertise and creativity to their teaching. At the same time the structure of the College gives the security of knowing that managers, and senior staff are all available to support and help. The ethos of the support staff is just that that they are there to support students and staff in any way they can and this engenders a positive team spirit across the College. The well-being of our staff is important to us too. As well as having many staff that have opted for part time or term time only working, the College promotes healthy living and good work-life balance initiatives. Colleagues have the opportunities to take part in 5-aside football, pilates and other sports and can join the cycle-to-work scheme offered by the College. In addition, health screening and immunisation against flu are offered periodically and from this year a health cash plan has been offered to all staff free of charge, providing help with the cost of dental and optical care, amongst a range of other benefits. College employees are entitled to join either the Teachers Pension or Local Government Pension Schemes. In addition, salary sacrifice schemes for childcare are available. 4 states Manager The College currently has approximately 2000 students and employs 185 teaching and support staff. As state Manager, you will have responsibility for the buildings, maintenance and security of the premises, ensuring that the College is a safe and pleasant environment for staff, students and visitors. You will be responsible for the organisation and overseeing of building services and maintenance, involved in both strategic planning and day-to-day operations. Areas of responsibility will include: Support Staff Building and grounds maintenance Health and safety Procurement and contract management Utilities and communications provision Security Cleaning The successful candidate will line-manage a team of three state Assistants and 16 cleaning staff working over two separate morning or evening shifts, together with some daytime cover. In addition, you will manage all external contractors, ensuring up to date compliance information is held. You will be the ultimate organiser, demonstrate great interpersonal skills, efficiency, flexibility, and practical skills. The variety of work together with the friendly and purposeful environment within Queen lizabeth Sixth Form College makes this an interesting and challenging role for the successful candidate.

5 Queen lizabeth Sixth Form College Job Description Post: Salary: Responsible to: state Manager Pts on the Support Staff Payscale Currently 31,845 35,091 per annum Chief Finance Officer Main Purpose of the Post You will play an important part in the effective operation of the College, especially in its pursuit of providing an effective and high quality buildings resource programme appropriate to curriculum, student and staff needs. In particular, the post requires a high level of specialist knowledge and expertise, the need to keep up to date with changes and developments in health and safety and the ability to work closely with other colleagues mentioned in this job description. Responsibilities of the post Premises: organising and overseeing responsive/reactive maintenance of the estate organising and overseeing the procedures for identification and implementation of a programme of planned and cyclic maintenance work preparing reports for meetings of the Finance & Resource Committee and Board of Governors overseeing the procedure for identification, approval and programme of any minor works collaborating on project management with ad hoc teams and external professionals, including playing a key role in major building programmes liaising with external buildings consultants as necessary overseeing arrangements for the cleaning of the premises Grounds: ensuring the grounds are kept in a good, safe and tidy state of repair overseeing all arrangements for grounds maintenance Security: overseeing all arrangements for the internal and external security of College premises, land and assets liaising with external agencies (security consultants, the police etc.) as necessary

6 Queen lizabeth Sixth Form College Contracts: advising on, negotiating as approved and managing all estate related contracts including the management of tender processes ensuring value for money is achieved from all estate management contracts Health & Safety: advising on and overseeing all College related Health & Safety arrangements ensuring that the College is compliant with all statutory requirements and legislation reviewing and implementing the strategy for College Health & Safety taking responsibility for initiating and managing College risk assessments having significant input to the development of health and safety policies and procedures and ensuring these are reviewed and communicated to staff organising effective and relevant health and safety training for staff as appropriate managing the College contractor base, ensuring that up to date compliance information is held on all contractors manage the Permit to Work process, identifying risks and issuing a Permit to Work as required preparing and delivering reports to the Health & Safety Committee and Governors meetings as required reporting on accident statistics investigating the cause of accidents Personnel: managing the work of the state Team overseeing all caretaking and cleaning arrangements This job description is subject to amendment, from time to time, within the terms of your conditions of employment, but only to the extent consistent with the needs of the College, and only after consultation with you. All staff and senior post holders have a duty for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. Staff must be aware of the college procedures for raising concerns about students welfare and must report any concern to the designated officers without delay. Staff must also ensure that they attend the appropriate level of safeguarding training identified by the college as relevant to their role. The post holder s duties must at all times be carried out in compliance with the College s quality and Diversity Policy, and the post holder must take reasonable care of the health and safety of self, other persons and resources whilst at work. This entails supporting the College s responsibilities under the Health and Safety Act. All staff are expected to support the achievement of the College s mission and strategic objectives and to demonstrate its values through their behaviour.

NBOSH General Certificate) D SLCTION PROCSS MANS OF IDNTIFICATION Certificates XPRINC Project management and supervising and coordinating the work of contractors Preparing documents to put out tenders xperience of completing risk assessments SKILLS & APTITUDS Good IT skills, in particular strong xcel skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Good team management and motivation skills Disciplined and methodical approach to work with excellent attention to detail xcellent organisational skills PRSONAL QUALITIS Ability to work independently or as part of a team Assertive, with good negotiation skills Customer focused with a commitment to high quality A genuine interest in the education of year old students References References References Salary and Conditions of Service This is a full time (37 hours per week), permanent post Salary is Pt. 40 Pt. 44 on the support staff payscale. The starting point on the scale will depend on qualifications and experience. Holiday entitlement is 26 days a year, plus bank holidays. Holidays are usually taken within the College holiday periods, however, there will be some flexibility for this role due to your responsibilities over the College holiday periods. The contract and terms and conditions of employment will be based on a model for support staff produced by the National Joint Council of the Sixth Form Colleges Association.
