OVERVIEW Destination NSW is a Public Service Executive agency with responsibility for devising and implementing strategies to grow the visitor economy. Our particular focus is on driving tourism and acquiring and developing major sporting and cultural events for Sydney and Regional NSW. In addition, Destination NSW is the major investor in Business Events Sydney with the aim to secure more international conventions, incentive travel reward programs, corporate events and exhibitions for Sydney and Regional NSW. 2. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ROLE This is a senior role within the Ministerial and Corporate Communications team responsible for driving the corporate and ministerial communications agenda, including major media announcements and programs, requiring complex stakeholder co-ordination and liaison. Acts as a key support for Director Ministerial and Corporate Communications on issues management and assists other team members by providing advice on day to day issues and processes as required. If required the role will represent the Director and Destination NSW at whole of government meetings such as the Event Operations/Communications Group and All Agencies Briefings. The role is responsible for the delivery of opportunities to leverage the NSW Government s and Destination NSW s investment in the industry and securing major events, partnerships, marketing and funding programs. This includes the identification, management and execution of ministerial media and stakeholder events and activities across the tourism and events portfolios, and is responsible for the end to end management, planning and preparation of materials to support all opportunities identified including media releases, fact sheets, Q&As, event briefing notes, speeches, as well as other ministerial documentation including briefing notes, parliamentary notes (house folder notes) and correspondence where required. The role is also responsible for the preparation of responses to media enquiries and provides recommendations and suggestions regarding media strategy for announcements where appropriate. The role also identifies and manages DNSW media opportunities with travel trade media and supports corporate communications activities, such as initiatives including the Annual Report, key achievement documents and such as required. 3. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant industry/government experience EXPERIENCE Experience in a corporate communications media role Experience within the context of Government, especially at a State level Understanding of the industry and the Government s role in tourism and events at State, Commonwealth and Local levels. Proven record of achievement in developing and implementing event media and communications strategies and plans, preferably in a Government, tourism and events environment.
