JOB DSCRIPTION Job Title: mployer: Reports to: Direct reports: Development Officer Individual Giving - Membership and Visitor Giving Trustees of the Royal Air Force Museum Head of Development Volunteer supervision as required Term: Permanent, part-time 3 days out of 7 Purpose of the Job: To deliver the Museum s Membership and Visitor Supporters Strategies as key elements in the Museum s fundraising portfolio. To grow the number and reach of Members and Visitor Supporters ensuring that all of them onsite and online have the opportunity to enjoy a positive relationship with the Museum and to engage fully with the Museum s Vision. Accountabilities: Deliver the Museum s Membership and Visitor Supporter Strategies ensuring they are effective in delivering agreed financial and growth targets. Act as the primary point of contact between the Museum and its Members and Visitor Supporters, developing personal and sustainable professional relationships with them as a firm foundation for future growth and helping to identify Members and Visitors with the capacity and inclination to become higher level Donors, Patrons and Sponsors. Implement, develop, manage and expand the Museum s Membership programme including the administration, recruitment and retention of members and organising attractive and successful events. Manage and increase Visitor Supporter donations both onsite in London and Cosford and online in accordance with agreed Museum security procedures. nsure Membership and Visitor Supporter donor and income records are managed accurately and in a timely manner, liaising closely with the Development Assistant. JOB FUNCTIONS Membership Develop, deliver, manage and increase income from the Membership programme for the Museum acting as the first point of contact for all Members and prospective members. nsure that the process of becoming a Member, or renewing Membership, is an easy one, whether face to face or online, and that adequate training is provided for front-facing Museum staff and volunteers. Develop and deliver a Membership events programme including guest lists, advance notification, invitations, briefing sheets and follow-up communication. 1
Develop a Membership recruitment and retention strategy to increase Member numbers and income year on year including research to assist with benefit, satisfaction and competition analysis. Provide regular reports on Membership statistics and assist in forecasting. nsure that any Members spaces are well managed and monitored, in liaison with the Visitor xperience team. nsure that the relationship between Membership subscriptions and donations fully corresponds to the latest HMRC recommendations and requirements (including Gift Aid and VAT), in liaison with the Finance department. Develop any emergency or special fundraising campaigns that would appeal to Membership that is creative and operational face to face, onsite and online, in liaison with the Head of Development Visitor Supporters Onsite and Online Develop and deliver a programme to increase Visitor Supporter donations, working in close liaison with the Visitor xperience team and volunteers. Manage and maintain the collection of Visitor Supporter donations from across the sites, recording income on the CRM system. Work with the Visitor xperience and Corporate vents teams to ensure that the available sites for donation opportunities are maximised across the Museum ensuring that donation boxes and locations are attractive, visible, legible, accessible and persuasive. nsure that Visitors to the website have the opportunity to support the Museum easily, with satisfaction and the facility to be brought into the Museum s online communications community. Develop any emergency or special fundraising campaigns that would appeal to Visitor Supporters and that are operational onsite and online, in liaison with the Head of Development. Administration and Reporting nsure accurate and timely receipt and acknowledgement of gifts, Membership requests and fulfilment, and any other communications with Members and Visitor Supporters as required, recording everything via the CRM database, in conjunction with the Development Assistant. Update Membership and Visitor Supporter information working closely with the Development Assistant to develop systems to store, track and update Member and Visitor Supporter information Produce a monthly acknowledged and unacknowledged Membership and Visitor Supporter report to ensure that all donors are appropriately recognised. Make regular gift aid claims for the department ensuring all benefit rules are adhered to. Relationships Research and explore ways in which new and diverse constituencies of Members and Visitor Supporters whether through location, ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual or gender orientation, age, social class, professional and personal interests, inside and outside the RAF family - can be brought into the Museum s orbit and start supporting our Vision. Develop a volunteer programme to ensure the cost-effective, welcoming and efficient operation of the Membership and Visitor Supporters programme, in liaison with the Volunteering Manager. Liaise with other museum and visitor attraction membership groups and organisations to keep up with and share best practice Work closely with other members of the Development Team to share knowledge of prospects, programmes and opportunities to deliver the Museum s Strategy and Business Plan demonstrating positive collaboration and problem solving. 2
nsure effective communication with all stakeholders, both internally and externally. Work closely with other departments to deliver museum-wide programmes and objectives. Build and maintain partnerships with relevant external contacts and stakeholders representing the RAF Museum externally when required. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate the Museum s values in all their day to day interactions with colleagues. They will be a positive influence and role model, acting with integrity and professionalism and tackling challenges in a pragmatic and collaborative manner to bring staff along with them when they / the Museum makes changes and implements developments. Hours and Physical Conditions 1. This is a permanent, part-time position, 3 days out of 7. Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening work will be required on occasion. 2. The post is based at the London site but work at both Museum sites (London and Cosford) and at other exhibition venues will be required. This is a description of the job at present.
