1 Job Vacancy Information & Support Officer (ublin) Salary: 30, % pension contribution Location: ublin Reporting to: Ireland Manager Meningitis Research Foundation: Based in Ireland and the UK, we are working to provide continued support for people through research, advocacy and direct support whilst rapidly increasing our profile and impact internationally. The candidate: The right person will have a strong community focus. You will manage the charity s awareness and support activities. In addition you will also deliver an effective community fundraising programme in order to meet targets. We fundraise, inform and educate. Over 25 years we have played an instrumental role in helping to reduce death and disability from meningitis and septicaemia wherever it exists. To achieve this our incredible supporters have enabled us to fund research in the UK, urope, North and South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Australasia. With a drive to continue ongoing work in Ireland and the UK whilst growing our international presence significantly, we are about to embark on a new phase of development for the charity. 3 Job escription Context This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to manage the charity s awareness and support activities. In addition the person will also deliver an effective community fundraising programme in order to meet targets and grow its community and events fundraising programme. Purpose To contribute to the development and implementation of a programme of community fundraising by stimulating member and supporter involvement in fundraising, research, awareness, media and fundraising activities. Working with health professionals to provide information on meningitis and septicaemia, implement public awareness campaigns and support people affected by the disease. Reports to Ireland Manager Responsibilities Key Tasks To promote good practice in the management of meningitis and septicaemia to health professionals through the organisation of training events in conjunction with existing educational programmes, through seminars, conferences and information mailings etc. To work in partnership with health care and education professionals, in consultation with the relevant Head Office departments. nsure an effective response to incidents of meningitis in the community, including the provision of information to the public, in-depth support for people affected, appropriate liaison with the media, coordination with other charity staff and accurate recording of such incidents. To lead on the provision of information on meningitis and septicaemia to the general public, and the services offered by the charity, by all appropriate media and methods. To seek opportunities for and prepare and deliver presentations in a range of community and health professional settings. To follow up individual cases of meningitis providing support and befriending for families affected by meningitis; visit members, including those who are bereaved or affected by offering support. To develop and promote membership of the charity by recruiting people with personal experience of the disease to become active members. To recruit, lead, train, refresh and expand a network of community Ambassadors. To develop relationships with them to be proactive in their community. To proactively make contact and engage with individuals, schools and companies in response to media reports of cases of meningitis and septicaemia. To develop and maintain useful networks with academics, clinicians, epidemiologists and other health professionals and industry representatives active in the field of meningitis and septicaemia, and promoting the charity s research programme and the application procedure. To record and analyse published statistics on meningitis and septicaemia and disseminate information on current trends. nsure HO and other offices within the charity are informed; to update internal spreadsheets with Ireland statistics. 4 Fundraising/Administrative Tasks Implement annual programme of fundraising activities to achieve targets and in accordance with statutory and charity requirements and guidelines. This will include major events, community fundraising and the development, promotion and executing of charity and supporter events. To assist the Ireland Manager in drawing up plans and budgets to reach agreed targets, and to develop new areas of work which meet the job purpose in effective and cost-efficient ways. Monitor expenditure against budget. To work with the Manager and other staff to organise large-scale events. Support and liaise with members as they raise funds for MRF. To organise members presence at cheque presentations, talks etc., to resource them appropriately and follow us as appropriate. Prepare and supervise World Meningitis ay activities in Ireland. Personal evelopment and General To be flexible and be sensitive to the needs of MRF members and staff. To contribute to the overall development of the charity through establishing positive working relationships and effective lines of communication with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders. To work with head office in the development of new materials as appropriate. To be responsible for ensuring all administrative tasks associated with awareness activities are carried out efficiently and effectively. To monitor stock levels of information materials, order supplies, take delivery of resources and manage the work of administrative staff and volunteers for information mailings. To be self-motivated and to prioritise and manage numerous activities simultaneously. To help deliver the charity s strategic vision across all its projects- identifying stories and opportunities. To keep abreast of best practice and legal and statutory requirements for the role. To keep abreast of the charity s research programme, and of current developments in the field of meningitis and septicaemia. To take responsibility for own development and training needs, in consultation with Ireland Manager. To carry out other duties as reasonably required by Ireland Manager/Chief xecutive and/or board of trustees Information-Support /7

7 Terms and Conditions - ssentials Location Your normal place of work will be Gardiner House, Lower Gardiner Street, ublin 1 with occasional work elsewhere including the UK and Republic of Ireland and potentially further afield depending on the post held. Salary 30, % employers pension contribution. Paid in arrears on or around 25th of each month. Hours of Work hours between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday. Occasional unsociable hours. Annual Leave 24.5 days + statutory & public holidays. The Charity s holiday year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Information-Support /7
