Inductin prcedure fr new staff The fllwing prcedure is based upn the NCL Safer Recruiting guidelines. Its purpse is t: cnfirm the cnduct expected f staff within the schl supprt individuals in a way that is apprpriate t their rle The staff inductin prgramme will cver all f the regulatry aspects frm the fllwing dcuments: Keeping Children Safe in Educatin (September 2016) (KCSIE) - NB new staff will be required t sign t say that they have read and understd Part 1 and Annex A KCSIE incrprates the additinal statutry guidance, Disqualificatin under the Childcare Act 2006 (June 2016) KCSIE als refers t the nn-statutry advice fr practitiners: What t d if yu re wrried a child is being abused (March 2015) Wrking Tgether t Safeguard Children (March 2015) (WT) WT refers t the nn-statutry advice: Infrmatin sharing (March 2015) Prevent Duty Guidance: fr England and Wales (July 2015) (Prevent). The prcess will include: an inductin checklist the plicies and prcedures t be understd a diary f meetings cntact details f ther relevant individuals prvide an pprtunity t recgnise any cncerns r issues at the utset and act n them immediately The inductin prcess is valuable because it supprts new members f staff gives them an pprtunity t discuss and understand the eths and expectatins f the schl generally and f their wn respnsibilities specifically identifies ptential cncerns and prmtes an actin plan clarifies what is deemed gd (and bad) practice prvides pprtunity t discuss child safeguarding issues s that they d nt place themselves at risk cnfirms that they fully understand what the schl expects f them, leaving n rm fr any claim that they were unsure f the bundaries f acceptable and unacceptable behaviur r were unaware f established prcedures The prcess will be practively mnitred t enable future inductin prcedures t be imprved. Prductive mnitring prcedures will include: examining staff turnver and the reasns fr leaving

cnducting exit interviews prviding new recruits with training and evaluating its effectiveness Sequence f Events 1. Befre taking up the pst (and during the previus term if pssible), a meeting will be held in schl with Head and/r allcated Mentr. The purpses f this meeting are: t receive infrmatin abut teaching r ther emplyment activities t receive cntract details t view and have reference t a Staff Handbk t discuss the Cde f Cnduct s aims and hw it is applied t sign that the new member f staff has read, understd and agrees with the schl s Cde f Cnduct when wrking with children, the Child Prtectin bklet issued by the CPO and all ther relevant dcumentatin t receive infrmatin abut the Inductin prcedure thereafter

Befre the start f term, where apprpriate, it may be valuable t hld further meetings in which: relevant updates n plicy and prcedure will be given an inductin checklist will be prvided a diary f meetings discussed and arranged 3. A recrded prgramme f supprt and bservatin by and f the new member f staff will then ensue as fllws: a. a series f meetings between mentr and new member f staff. These will be weekly in the first instance, until such time as the mentr cnsiders this can be reduced t frtnightly r drpped cmpletely b. a meeting t be held in Week 3 with the Mentr during which bserved lessns are t be arranged c. an bservatin with written feedback and meeting with the Head befre the end f the first term (unless the head is mentring) d. if necessary, a cntinued prgramme f bservatin in the secnd and third terms. 4. The End f Inductin Perid is marked by the a meeting with the Head t recrd areas f strength and thse fr develpment in the secnd year 5. Full Prfessinal Develpment Review takes place frm the furth term nwards Inductin f Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) At we recgnise that the first twelve mnths f teaching are nt nly very demanding but als f cnsiderable significance in the prfessinal develpment f a new teacher. Our schl s inductin prcess ensures the apprpriate guidance, supprt and training t include the develpment f skills, knwledge, expectatins and bservatins are prvided thrugh a structured but flexible individual prgramme. Each NQT is registered with ISTiP (Independent Schls Teacher Inductin Prgramme) wh regulate the Inductin prgramme. Purpse Our schl s inductin prcess has been designed t make a significant cntributin t bth the prfessinal and persnal develpment f NQTs. The purpses f inductin include: t prvide prgrammes apprpriate t the individual needs f the NQT. t prvide apprpriate cunselling and supprt thrugh the rle f an identified mentr. t prvide NQTs with examples f gd practice. t help NQTs frm gd relatinships with all members f the schl cmmunity. t encurage reflectin n their wn and bserved practice. t prvide pprtunities t recgnise and celebrate gd practice. t prvide pprtunities t identify areas fr develpment. t help NQTs t develp an verview f a teacher s rles and respnsibilities. t prvide a fundatin fr lnger-term prfessinal develpment. t help NQTs meet all the cre standards.

Rles and Respnsibilities The Gverning Bdy The gverning bdy will be fully aware f the cntents f Guidance t the Law DfES/0458/2003 which sets ut the schl's respnsibility t prvide the necessary mnitring, supprt and assessment fr NQTs. Careful cnsideratin is given, prir t any decisin t appint an NQT, whether the schl currently has the capacity t fulfil all its bligatins. The gverning bdy will be kept aware and up t date abut inductin arrangements and the results f frmal assessment meetings. The Headteacher The headteacher at plays a significant and leading rle in the prcess f inducting new clleagues t the prfessin. While respnsibility fr the implementatin f the Inductin Prgramme will be delegated t an inductin tutr, the head teacher will als bserve each NQT at least nce each term. Statutry respnsibilities are as fllws: ensuring an apprpriate inductin prgramme is set up. recmmending t the LEA whether an NQT has met the requirements fr satisfactry cmpletin f the inductin perid (thrugh ISTiP). While the head may nt delegate these respnsibilities, many f the assciated tasks will be carried ut by an inductin tutr r ther suitably experienced clleague. In additin t the statutry requirements the head teacher will: bserve and give written warnings t an NQT at risk f failing t meet the required standards. keep the gverning bdy aware and up t date abut inductin arrangements and the results f frmal assessment meetings. Inductin Mentr The principal requirement fr the NQT inductin tutr is t be respnsible fr the verall management f initiating NQTs int the teaching prfessin and int systems and structures. It requires nt nly a crdinatin rle but als keeping recrds f activities and mnitring the quality assurance f prvisin. It embraces varius tasks, such as rganising a central inductin prgramme, prviding supprt and guidance and the rigrus but fair assessment f NQT perfrmance. The mentr will cntribute t the judgements abut the prgress against the cre standards. This is likely t be the Head, Deputy Head r Head f Department. It is pssible that these respnsibilities will be shared between 2 peple, ne f whm will fcus upn settling the NQT int his/her pst at Smallwd (see Buddy belw) and the ther will versee the requirement f meeting the NQT standards and reprting t / liaising with ISTiP. Buddy In additin t the inductin mentr, wh has the respnsibility fr the frmal assessment f the NQT, a buddy might be appinted t prvide nging supprt n a daily basis. Entitlement

Our inductin prgramme ensures that new teachers are prvided with the supprt and mnitring t help them fulfil their prfessinal duties and meet the requirements fr satisfactry cmpletin f inductin. It builds n their knwledge, skills and achievements in relatin t standards fr the award fr qualified teacher status (QTS) The key aspects f the inductin prgramme fr NQTs at are as fllws: Access t an inductin prgramme that will cmmence upn appintment and be reviewed after ne year in pst if full-time r at a later date if part-time. Structured visits t the schl prir t taking up appintment with time t discuss the Career Entry and Develpment Prfile, develpments needed and hw they will be assisted in making these. Help and guidance frm an inductin tutr wh is adequately prepared fr the rle and will crdinate the inductin prgramme. Regular meetings with mentr, senir managers, subject crdinatrs and ther key staff where apprpriate. Time and regular pprtunities t meet with ther NQTs and teachers wh have recently cmpleted their inductin prgramme, where pssible and apprpriate. Observe experienced clleagues teaching. A reductin f 10% f the average teacher s wrklad. This time is used fr participating in the schls inductin prgramme. Have teaching bserved by experienced clleagues. T receive prmpt written as well as ral feedback n the teaching bserved and t receive advice as necessary. Opprtunities fr further prfessinal develpment based n agreed targets. Lessn bservatin, reviewing and target setting These will be fllwed and cmpleted in accrdance with the DFES guidelines n NQT inductin. Assessment & Quality Assurance The assessment f NQTs will be rigrus and bjective. The criteria used fr frmal assessments will be shared and agreed in advance. Bth frmative assessment (e.g. lessn bservatin and target setting) and summative assessment (termly inductin reprts) will be used. Respnsibility fr assessment will invlve all teachers wh have a part in the NQT s develpment in rder t gain a reliable verall view. Opprtunities will be created fr NQTs t gain experience and expertise in selfassessment. The inductin tutr will ensure that assessment prcedures are cnsistently applied.

Cpies f any recrds will be passed t the NQT cncerned. Termly reprts will give details f: areas f strength areas requiring develpment evidence used t infrm judgement, targets fr cming term supprt t be prvided by the schl At risk prcedures If any NQT encunters difficulties with meeting the NQT standards, the fllwing prcedures will be put int place. An expectatin is established that the supprt prvided will enable any weaknesses t be addressed. Recrded diagnsis f the exact nature f the prblem and advice given n hw t redress the prblem. Agreed, attainable targets fr actin with specific and practical steps utlined fr securing an imprvement in practice. Experienced clleagues will mdel aspects f gd practice s that the NQT can fcus attentin n particular areas f teaching thrugh bservatin. Early warning f the risk f failure will be given and the schl s cncerns cmmunicated t the LA and/r ISTiP withut delay. Where an NQT has cntinuing difficulties further supprt, advice and directin will be given. Areas f cncern will be re-defined and clarified and the necessary imprvements required clearly set ut. Where necessary, the Head/LA adviser will supprt the inductin tutr and NQT in bservatins and planning an apprpriate prgramme t ensure satisfactry cmpletin f the NQT year and that all steps have been taken t imprve the situatin. Addressing NQT Cncerns If an NQT has any cncerns abut the inductin, mentring and supprt prgramme, these shuld be raised within the schl in the first instance. Where the schl des nt reslve them the NQT shuld raise cncerns with the named LA/ISTiP cntact.
