Thesis In one or two sentences describe what ideas the advert promotes. EXAMPLE Broad General One sentence that introduces the general topic of your essay. Nutshell Describe what you can see in the advertisement. Also describe the written codes. Thesis In one or two sentences describe what ideas the advert promotes. Adverts are created to sell products, however they can also give us ideas about what we should be doing with our lives. The Quick Trim advertisement features Kim Kardashian as the celebrity endorsement. She stands on the left hand side of the page dressed in a bikini. Next to her is a quote from her saying, I ve reached my goal, meanwhile in the right hand side of the advert is a picture of the Quick Trim products. At the top of the advert is a heading saying, Reach Your Weight Loss Goals Fast! The advert is set at a beach and the main colours are purple and blue. The target audience for this advertisement is young women. This advert promotes the idea that women should be slim or aim to be slim and that being skinny is attractive.
Paragraph One:
EXAMPLE: One technique used to promote the idea that being skinny is attractive, is through the use of the celebrity endorsement. A celebrity endorsement is when a celebrity is pictured in the advert saying that they use the product. The most powerful device used in this advertisement is Kim Kardashian s endorsement. Kim is wearing a bikini and looks pleased with her slim body and says, I ve reached my goal. Many young women watch the show Keeping up with the Kardashians and idolise Kim s luxurious lifestyle and her attractive body. Also, young women like to copy celebrities. Because young women look up to Kim, they will believe the message that reaching your weight loss goal is the most important way to look attractive. Another technique that has been used to support this idea is the use of symbolic codes.
Paragraph Two:
Paragraph Three:
Conclusion Opening Briefly restate your thesis (but in a different way!) Summarise Summarise the key points of your essay. Broad Generalisation Finish with one or two sentences that develop a personal thought/ idea on the topic. This should be longest section of your conclusion. EXAMPLE: Opening Briefly restate your thesis (but in a different way!) Summarise Summarise the key points of your essay. Broad Generalisation Finish with one or two sentences that develop a personal thought/ idea on the topic. Adverts can persuade us to not only buy products, but to also believe certain ideas, such as being skinny is beautiful. The Quicktrim advert has used a range of techniques to communicate ideas such as being slim is beautiful, being a celebrity is something to aim for, weight loss can be achieved without effort etc. In a way adverts want people to believe the ideas they present, so that people will buy their product. For example, make-up adverts make viewers believe that without make-up they do not look good, so that they can sell more of their product.
