3 I. What is production editing? Editing: reading a text in order to spot problematic passages, and making any needed corrections or improvements. Revising: same task as editing applied to texts which are translations. Proofreading: comparing the outcome of page design and typesetting with the original document. Production editing: seeing a text through its stages from manuscript to bound book or ebook.
