There will be an opportunity to provide ideas for additional research and extension work from your perspective as a crop adviser. 1 CM CCA CEU 3-3:50 p.m. Breakout Sessions - Group 4 Slug Biology and Management Discussion Del Voight, Penn State Extension This session will seek to learn about the biology and behavior of slugs. Since Del is not an expert in this area he will bring some practical in-field experience of his dealings with slugs in different scenarios. This session will be interactive with discussions pertaining to slug management in long term continuous no till. Whole Farm Management for Water Quality and Healthy Streams Lemonte Garber, Stroud Water Research Center The Stroud Center s research on healthy streams and rivers guides how we work with farmers to advance whole farm conservation projects. Reducing pollution primarily nutrients and sediment is critical but insufficient to finish the job. Streams need habitat, thermal protection, carbon inputs, watershed infiltration, and other ingredients if we expect our streams to support healthy fisheries and deliver less pollution to downstream communities and waterbodies like Chesapeake Bay. 1.0 SW CCA CEU; 1 PA Nutrient Mgmt CEC Alternative Grain Crops Greg Roth, Penn State University This session will describe the management recommendation for some potential alternative crops such as malting barley, rye, hulless barley, rapeseed and hulless oats. Seasonal Review: Insects Liz Bosak, Penn State Extension Brush up on corn, soybean, and wheat insect pest identification, learn what s new in insecticides for 2017, hear about commonly reported insect issues for the 2016 growing season and generate a plan for managing Western corn rootworm resistance by attending this session. 1 PM CCA CEU; 1 PA Pesticide Cat PC, 01 and 18 Is Our Corn Crop Getting Enough Sulfur? Greg Roth, Penn State University Over the last three years, Extension Educators have collected tissue and soil samples from representative cornfields across the state to get a snap shot of sulfur levels. Additionally, sulfur calibration tests have been done in small plots across the state to determine if recommendations need to be adjusted. 1 NM CCA CEU; 0.5 PA Nutrient Mgmt CEC -Page 2-

Choices about the future of our external energy system will greatly affect agriculture as well as many other aspects of our lives, through economics, climate change, national security, and more. Our history of energy use provides a basis for the science behind the choices we face. 1 CM CCA CEU 11-11:50 a.m. Breakout Sessions - Group 2 Seasonal Review: Diseases Do 1) Agricultural Biologicals and Alyssa Collins, Penn State University 2) Nitrogen Stabilizer Products What went right and what went wrong for Have a Place in Agronomic Crop plant health in 2016? This session will cover what biologicals are, how they work, and if they have a place in agronomic crop production. As part of the quest to improve nitrogen use efficiency, nitrogen stabilizer products are designed to provide nitrogen fertilizer short term protection from loss pathways. During the second half of this session, learn how some of the leading stabilizers being marketed function and how they performed in field trials conducted in Maryland. 0.5 PM & 0.5 NM CCA CEU; 1 PA Nutrient Mgmt CEC 12 p.m. LUNCH Getting Credit in the Chesapeake Bay Model: Initial Findings of the Conservation Practices Survey Matt Royer, Penn State and Environment Center Earlier this year a survey was distributed to farmers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed for the purpose of documenting conservation practices adopted by Pennsylvania farmers in an effort to promote water quality and soil health. In this session Matt will share the early findings of the survey results and explain their meaning. 1 SW CCA CEU; 1 PA Nutrient Mgmt CEC 12:45-2 p.m. General Session - Agronomic Updates Receive up-to-date technical information from Representatives of Pennsylvania s crop production support and service industry. 1 PM CCA CEU; PA Pesticide PENDING 2-2:50 p.m. Breakout Sessions - Group 3 Agricultural Pest Update REPEATED SESSION Sven-Erik Spichiger, PA Department of Do 1) Agricultural Biologicals and 2) Nitrogen Stabilizer Products Have a Updates on Cooperative Agricultural Pest Surveys conducted in Pennsylvania. During the second half of this session, learn how some of the leading stabilizers being marketed function and how they performed in field trials conducted in Maryland. 0.5 PM & 0.5 NM CCA CEU; 1 PA Nutrient Mgmt CEC Closing the Yield Gap Between Double Crop and Full Season Soybeans Dr. David Holshouser, Virginia Tech - Tidewater AREC Double-crop soybean yields less than fullseason soybean primarily due to less time to develop adequate leaf area that captures 90 to 95% of sunlight by early pod development stages. This can be partially alleviated with early planting, narrow rows, higher seeding rates, and planting later relative maturities. However, other factors, ranging from soil fertility and nutrients to pest management, also disproportionately and negatively impact double-crop yields. This presentation will summarize past and ongoing research looking at closing the yield gap between double-crop and full-season soybean. 1 CM CCA CEU -Page 3-
4 3-3:50 p.m. Breakout Sessions - Group 4 Fungicide Modes of Action The Perdue Soybean Processing Alyssa Collins, Penn State University Plant: Who Will Be Impacted and There is a lot we expect from our ag chemicals: an Organic Grain Market/Rapeseed efficacy, safety, ease of use. This session will Contracting Update cover fungicide MOA s, plant health effects, Richard Cole, Chris Neff and Andrew Smyre, foliar & seed treatment longevity and more to Perdue Agribusiness LLC help you understand what fungicides can and Dick Cole will present information on how the can t do for you. 1 PM CCA CEU; 1 PA Pesticide soybean processing plant will affect both growers of soybeans and users of soybean meal. This update will review those changes grown in Lancaster and surrounding counties. Historically, this crop is cultivated multiple and share how they may affect you and your times and contributes to soil loss, erosion and customers. 1 PM CCA CEU; 1 PA Pesticide Cat water quality issues in the region. The Amish PC, 01 and 18 and Plain Mennonites grow a significant proportion of tobacco, vegetable and pumpkin crops. Once reluctant to adopt no-till practices, many of the region s plain farmers are now notilling corn, alfalfa and soybeans. A movement to continue this trend into non-traditional crops has been growing. With support from the Lancaster Conservation District and several grants, prototype no-till transplanters and notill systems are being developed and evaluated. 1.0 SW CCA CEU; 1 PA Nutrient Mgmt CEC Thank You to these Conference Sponsors as of 10/12/2016 AdvanSix, Inc.
