2 What is GlobalGAP? A private sector body that sets voluntary standards for the certification of agricultural products. A pre farm gate standard. A business to business label. Certification open to all producers worldwide. Consists of a set of normative documents: General Regulations, Control Points and Compliance Criteria and the Checklist.

6 GlobalGAP Governance Structure

7 GlobalGAP Board Consists of an equal number of elected producer and retailer representatives Is chaired by an independent chairperson Works very closely with the GLOBALGAP Secretariat

8 Sector Committees (SCs) Elected on 3 year basis by Global GAP Retailer and Supplier members Responsible for technical decision making relevant to their sector supported and guided by the GlobalGAP Secretariat Board adopts standards developed or revised by the SCs Sector Committees include Crops, Livestocks and Acquaculture

9 National Technical Working Groups Provide qualified input from national experts in their own language with respect to interpretation as well as specific legal and structural conditions within the different areas covered by GLOBALGAP. The GLOBALGAP NTWG is the platform to harmonize certification activities within the region and scope. Any interpretation guidelines developed by an NTWG shall go through Sector Committee approval before becoming normative in the specific country. The groups work in close cooperation with the GLOBALGAP Secretariat and the GLOBALGAP Committees. For the GLOBALGAP Secretariat the NTWG will be the direct link in the country and the first contact point.

11 Types of Certification GlobalGAP Standard: Option 1 Individual Producer Certification Option 2 Group Certification Benchmarked Standard: Option 3 Individual Producer Certification Option 4 Group Certification

12 Certification Process Obtain appropriate documentation (e.g. CPCCs, Checklists) for the applicable scopes and take positive steps to comply with the applicable requirements. Register with GlobalGAP. Inspection by certification body. Certification decision if approved, certificate is valid for 12 months.

13 Required Compliance Levels Relative to CPCC Documents Major Musts 100% compliance is compulsory Minor Musts 95% compliance (excluding those elements which are not applicable) Recommendations No minimum percentage of compliance is required, but all elements are evaluated during the certification inspection.
