1 OATS - CERTIFIED ANTIGO Antigo is an early maturity variety released from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Antigo has excellent test weight and high yields. Antigo heads out one day later than Badger and two days earlier than Esker. Antigo is two inches taller than Badger and two inches shorter than Esker and Ron. Lodging is similar to Esker and Natty and less than Drumlin and Vista. It is modestly resistant to crown rust. Antigo has high dehulling efficiency, average groat percentage while is high in protein and oil. The U.S. Plant Protected Variety (PVPA 1994) for Antigo Oats is being applied for at the time of printing. 2 BETAGENE TM BetaGene is a mid-late maturity variety with good yield potential and high beta-glucan levels released at the University of Wisconsin in BetaGene has good test weights, similar to Vista and heads out 2 days later than Esker and 2 days earlier than Vista. BetaGene is 3 inches shorter than Vista and similar in height to Excel with lodging similar to Deon. Very good crown rust resistance and BYDV tolerance comparable to both Ron and Vista. BetaGene Oats high beta-glucan levels make it ideal for both human and animal consumption because of its cholesterol-lowering potential from its high soluble fiber content. Averaging 2% higher beta-glucan than other oat varieties, this advantage equates to 20% in processed food products. BetaGene is U.S. Plant Protected Variety (PVPA 1994), Title V, as X Seed of BetaGene can be produced and labeled for sale only by growers who have licensed by the Wisconsin Crop Improvement Association or its legal agent. Dane is very early, heading 3-4 days earlier than Ogle. Dane has large, yellow kernels that have a high groat percentage. It has above average test weight and groat protein percentage. Straw strength is good. Dane has intermediate resistance to crown (leaf) rust and has shown some tolerance to stem rust and barley yellow dwarf virus. Test weights are similar to those of Gem, while heading date is about 1 day later than Dane. Plant height is about an inch shorter than Drumlin. Lodging is less than Vista, but more than Dane. BYDV tolerance is comparable to that of Ogle. Crown rust resistance is good. Esker is a U.S. Plant Protected Variety (PVPA 1994). 5 OGLE Ogle is a medium maturing oat variety developed at the University of Illinois. Ogle heads 4 days later than Dane. Ogle is 2 inches taller than Hazel, and has very good straw strength. It produces high grain yields in the absence of leaf rust. Ogle is susceptible to both leaf rust and smut, but possesses tolerance to red leaf virus. It has slightly below-average test weight, and grain color is yellow.
