National trade association Represents 90% of post-consumer plastic processing capacity in North America.
Specific APR goals include: Increasing supply Reducing contamination Developing packaging design protocols Recognizing recycling compatible packages Recognizing recycled resin products Addressing plastic recycling beyond bottles
Membership committee representing 36 rigid plastic stakeholders generators, collectors recyclers, reclaimers brand names companies resin producers public policy makers

Early 2013 China s Green Fence Policy MRF operators were sent scrambling for markets for Prepicked and Bulky Rigid plastic bales
Domestic plastic reclaimers are interested in purchasing non-bottle rigid plastics material. Specific sorting by the generator may be necessary to access some of these domestic markets - the additional sorting may well result in additional revenue!
MRFs deciding how best to sort their rigid plastics, have many questions o What sorting options should be considered? o Which sorting makes the most economic sense? o How much additional revenue will result in additional sorting?
1. Marketable types of rigid plastics bales 2. Historic average pricing 3. Rigid plastic bale composition
All Rigid Plastics Bulky Rigids PET Bottles HDPE bottles colored & natural HDPE Natural Bottles Tubs & Lids Polypropylene Commingled Bottles Pre-picked Rigids No Bulky PET Bottles & Thermoforms HDPE Colored Bottles HDPE Colored Bottles & Containers PE Injection
Pricing needed for before and after China s Green Fence policy APR Plastic Reclaimer members were surveyed for January 2013 and May 2013 pricing. Combined with Moore Recycling s pricing database information = value of rigid plastic bales.
2010 APR Rigid Plastics Bale Audit 1. Sorted bales from West Coast, East Coast, Midwest and Canadian MRFs. 2. Determined makeup of various mixed rigid plastic bales 3. Resulted in 82 different product categories and resin type sorts.

Plastic Scrap Has Value! There are domestic buyers! 1. Overall: drop in the value of all bales of rigid plastics All Rigid plastics (ARP) 86 % from $140 to $20 per ton 2. Sorting reduced impact: Last bar only 8 %

Not all MRFs can sort further: Growth of PRFs will help APR Buyers and Sellers list [PlasticsRecycling.org] PlasticsMarkets.org
Updating historic pricing information Creating an on-line calculator which can be customized Recyclable plastics scrap value (or use default data) Disposal costs New model bale specifications Polypropylene HDPE Bottles & Containers - Colored HDPE Injection Grade (Buckets, Totes, Crates, Lawn Furniture, Carts, Storage Bins)
The APR Rigids Committee is pleased with the outcome of the Sort for Value Matrix. It can provide MRF operators with a solid base of information as they evaluate their options for sorting rigid plastics. Good source of options for marketing rigid plastics APR s website Market.org
