3 Who we are The LEAP Partnership is a multi-stakeholder initiative committed to improving the environmental performance of livestock supply chains, while considering both economic and social viability of the sector.
4 FAO/Hkun Lat ABOUT the partnership 3 principal elements Steering Committee LEAP Steering Committee is composed of 3 stakeholder groups, acts as the executive body of the Partnership, providing leadership and direction as well as oversees the implementation of the work programme. LEAP is a rare multi-stakeholder forum that has successfully delivered its outcomes, through consensus and dialogue. The information and tools produced with LEAP will serve to benchmark the environmental performance of the livestock sector. Ian McConnel WWF SECRETARIAT LEAP Secretariat is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and ensures that the work of the LEAP Partnership is based on transparency and neutrality. 6 LEAP Achievements Measurement and benchmarking are key to continual improvement. The application of the guidelines, at practical and policy levels, provides an opportunity to more clearly understand how and where improvement can be made to promote the wider sustainability of livestock production SYSTEM. 7 ABOUT the partnership COMPLETING THE PICTURE The LEAP work programme , known as LEAP+, supports the consolidation of LEAP1 guidelines through road testing and broadens its scope by developing additional guidelines on: Soil carbon stock changes in grasslands and rangelands Water footprinting Nutrient cycles accounting Eco-toxicity Feed additives Biodiversity INDICATORS Changed-oriented approaches Integrated sustainability assessments We support LEAP because measuring sustainability is the first step on the journey towards more sustainable livestock production, and LEAP is the compass for everyone in the global village that wants to share this journey...
