Guoda Burokienė Chamber of Agriculture of the LR, head of Rural Development department Brief substantiation of the need for this study programme: Studies of Rural Development Administration study programme provides competencies of public administration activity in the fields of economical, educological or ecological activity. The need for Rural Development Administration study programme is related with the following factors: rapid development of rural development policy in the EU and in Lithuania; today s economic and social changes in the Lithuanian and the EU countryside that require increased attention to the effectiveness of public administration system, quality of life, partnership and community sense of rural population; insufficient abilities of rural population and local government institutions to perform qualitative and quantitative changes of rural areas under contemporary conditions; need for reorganization of rural economical activity by decreasing employment in agriculture and increasing employment in local resources-based rural trades; significant EU financial support to rural development. Innovative management of changes in rural areas and targeting these changes to the desireable direction requires the administrators of rural development, who have strategic way of thinking and are able to use the resources of rural areas effectively, to solve economical, social, cultural and environmental problems of rural areas in the context of sustainable development. Career prospects and access to further studies Graduates of Rural Development Administration study programme have career opportunities in the European Union institutions of rural development management, agriculture and rural development consulting, in neighbourhoods, municipality administrations and their institutions, in public and budget institutions administrating rural development policy, in LAGs, in rural communities and their associations, in non-governmental organizations that implement rural development programs and projects. Graduates have opportunity to continue studies of Rural Development Administration programme or other programmes in the field of social sciences in post-graduate level and to acquire Master qualification degree after 2 years of full-time studies or 3 years of extended studies. Aim(s) of the study programme: The main goal/purpose of the programme education of responsible and active leaders of rural development, who have strategic way of thinking and are able to work in the formation of full fledged living environment. The first sub-goal of the programme formation of world view and general competencies that enable awareness of the unity of natural and human activity as well as the need of complexity in the society development and progress. The second subgoal of the programme formation of the basic knowledge of the public administration direction, related with the fields of social, agricultural and technology studies, aimed to changes management in rural development. The third sub-goal of the programme provision of basic knowledge and professional competencies of public administration and relatied fields of studies, that are necessary for solution of problems in specialized professional activity or field of studies.
