1 2009 Fungicides and Insecticides OILSEED RAPE AND TURNIP RAPE / CONTROL OF SCLEROTINIA STEM ROT EVALUATION OF FUNGICIDE TREATMENTS WITH AMISTAR Study director: Ulla Heinonen Trial ID Variety Location Experimental starting and completion F Apollo Jokioinen May 19 th and November 16 th 2009 Purpose of trials: Evaluate the biological efficacy of the fungicide Amistar against Sclerotinia stem rot in turnip rape SUMMARY The efficacy of the fungicide Amistar (azocystrobin 250 g/l) against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum stem rot in turnip rape was evaluated in one trial located in Jokioinen. Two dosages of Amistar, 0.8 l/ha and 0.6 l/ha, applied at the beginning of flowering (BBCH 61) and at the full flowering (BBCH 65) of turnip rape were compared to the untreated control. The beginning of the summer 2009 was rather dry. Dry weather in the end of June and in July before and during the flowering was unfavourable for stem rot development. Because of dry weather the trial was irrigated twice in the beginning of July. The disease incidence and severity was low in the trial in spite of irrigation and artificial inoculation by mixing sclerotia into soil at sowing. In the trial 82% of the plants in the untreated plots were healthy and 8% of the plants had severe attack. The proportion of severely attacked plants was lowest in treatments with Amistar at full flowering but the differences between the treatments or untreated control were not statistically significant. The fungicide treatments did not reduce the total number of diseased plants or the number of sclerotinia in the turnip rape yield compared to the untreated plots. Also the occurrence of downy mildew and black spot was rated in the trial. Due to low disease incidence no statistically significant differences in the occurrence of downy mildew and black spot between any treatments could be detected. Fungicide treatments did not increase turnip rape yield or 1000 seed weight in comparison to untreated control. Untreated Amistar 0.8 l/ha, BBCH 61 Amistar 0.8 l/ha, BBCH 65 Amistar 0.6 l/ha, BBCH 61 Amistar 0.6 l/ha, BBCH Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, percent of diseased plants Healthy <25% of plant attacked 25-50% of plant attacked >50% of plant attacked Figure 1. In the turnip rape trial in Jokioinen the incidence of Sclerotinia stem rot was low and there were no significant differences between the treatments in the amounts of healthy or diseased turnip rape plants.
