4 Preface The author is directly engaged in Agricultural vis - a- vis farm Journals and Journalism since more than four decades having his experiences in publishing and editing various farm journals both in Bengali and English. All these Farm journals and Journalism in India in different regional languages play a major role in Information Technology and Communication Management. Moreover, this also plays a major role in agricultural extension in disseminating the latest need-based scientific technologies amongst the farmers, extension workers, agricultural input dealers and retailers, students and experts. It is thus the best communicator of the scientific farming to the farmers who apply these technologies behind their ploughs for a sustainable development in agriculture. The author in this book of Agricultural Journalism has included the SALPs syllabus for teaching the course in the under graduate and post graduate levels of Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Sciences. The author has written the book in six (6) chapters, and has discussed, analyzed in depth on the functions of Information Technology and Communication Management, Print Journalism, Electronic Journalism, Photo Journalism, New Journalism, Media and Mass communications, etc. Hope the book will be an authentic text book for the Agricultural students of the SAUs all over India, and also will augment the professionals in Journalism related to agricultural education. Jana) born on 2nd May, 1947 in the district of Midnapore of West Bengal, stood First in the Higher Secondary Examination under the Board f Secondary Education, West Bengal in 1964 in Agricultural Stream; did B.S. (Ag.) Hons, in 1968 and M.Sc. Agronomy in 1970 with First Class from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kalyani University (now BCKV), with merit scholarships of the ICAR, DPI-West Bengal, Kalyani University, Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math and the British Council. He obtained Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from Kolkata, certificate for visiting professional Training in Agricultural Research from the East Angila University, Norwich, England; FAI training on Rainfed Agriculture in collaboration with ICRISAT, Hyderabad and HFC etc. He served the erstwhile Fertiliser Corporation of India (FCI), subsequently the Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation (HFC) as senior most Senor Agronomist looking after field Promotional activities and Technical Publicity, FP & ARD and ODA-funded Rainfed Farming Project, etc. Also served as the Training Organiser of ICAR-funded Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalyan, Purulia district and as the Training Organiser, Seva Bharati Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kapgari of Paschim Medinipore district of West Bengal. He has authored 25 nos. of Agriculture books in Bengali published by the West Bengal State Book Board, Pushpa Jana, Mehanati Prakashani, Bharati Book Stall, Kolkata and 18 books in English published by the Agrotech Publishing Academy, Udaipur (Rajasthan), Emanate Prakashni, Kolkata and Pointer Publishers, Jaipur He has so far published 140 agriculture papers in English and 2000 articles in Bengali in the Journal of national and international repute. He was the Sub Editor & is now Chief Advisor, Sabuj Sona an Agricultural Fortnightly, Ranaghat (WB) and Edited the Bhawna a house journal of Eastern India Pesticides Association (EIPA), Kolkata.

He is the Editor, Liebigs Krishi Barta of the Liebigs Agrochem (P) Ltd., 3B Dharmadas Row, Kolkata-700 026.

He has been awarded the best journalist and writer for the year 2003, 2005 and 2006 respectively by the Sobuj Sona and recipient of the Sabitri Devi Memorial Trust award for his achievements in Farm

There are more geographical demarcations, and the interaction among and within countries is increasing at a faster rate. Thus to able to interact, we need to understand each other s language, is called the most effective means of communication (Jana 2008). Information and knowledge in today s fast moving world is the key for progress and new developments. Today with the insight of new technology and specialized information connoisseurs, information on any area under discussion can be collected, organized and retrieved with difficulty and is termed as librarian opens our doors of knowledge in an orderly structure (Seth 2006). By definition, Information Technology (IT) has been mentioned as Information Technology and Communication Management (ITCM), which ordinarily refers to computer-based technology and telecommunications. These are electronic systems for receiving, processing, storing, retrieving and transmitting information. IT thus includes both computing and
