1 LEAR CONTIGUOUS AREAS ANALYSIS (CAA) MAPPING REFINEMENT LEAR Open House Presentation April 2015
2 BACKGROUND LEAR Recommended Prime Agriculture Area (PAA) identified through study completed by MHBC Comments from Public Open House and PAAWG to undertake further work to refine the LEAR Recommended PAA Recommended size threshold for PAA designations is 250 hectares (617 acres) Refinement to PAA requires consideration of natural heritage and prior site specific approvals
3 PURPOSE OF MAPPING REFINEMENT Complete a contiguous areas analysis of the LEAR Recommended Prime Agricultural Area, as identified in the Region of Peel and Town of Caledon LEAR study Identify refinement to boundaries of LEAR Recommended Prime Agricultural Area based on analysis
4 Identify lands with LEAR scores above recommended threshold for Prime Agricultural Area (score 535) Apply overlay of natural heritage constraints Apply overlay of site specific prior approvals that removed lands to a non-farm designation Group adjacent or abutting lands having contiguous areas 250 hectares
5 METHODOLOGY (CONT) Part A natural heritage constraints tested in two ways overlay Official Plan natural heritage designations overlay woodlands and wetlands Part B overlay of prior approved sites by Town of Caledon to non-farm land uses Part C Combine Part A and Part B, identify, assess and refine the size of the recommended boundaries of the LEAR prime agriculture area

9 CONTIGUOUS AREAS ANALYSIS (PART C) Overlay of Part A and B onto the LEAR Recommended Prime Agricultural lands (i.e., lands meeting the LEAR threshold of 535) to identify contiguous areas of approximately 250 ha A 250 ha threshold is selected in accordance with the LEAR technical guidelines

12 REFINEMENT OF THE LEAR RECOMMENDED PRIME AGRICULTURE AREA Compared the CAA boundary to the current Region Prime Agriculture Area (Official Plan Schedule B) to understand the number of parcels and acreage which have the potential to: Remain in the Prime Agriculture Area Be added to the Prime Agriculture Area Be removed from the Prime Agriculture Area
