8 The Plough The plough revolutionized agriculture! It provided a uniform seed bed, controlled weeds and released nutrients for plant growth. But ploughing the soil degrades soil organic matter releasing nutrients to support plant growth Organic matter is more than just nutrients As with any stock, it can be depleated. 8
