17 Problems with quality in shrimp 1. vulnerability of the culture to diseases 2. contamination with forbidden antibiotics (nitrofuranes, chloramphenicol) 3. use of substances, not evaluated in the EU 4. contamination with (zoonotic) bacteria, presence of antibiotic resistance (?) 5. poor access to EU- and local legislation (qualityrequirements) 6. vulnerability of the environment for shrimpculture 7. insufficient access to analysing equipment and trained personnel 8. insufficient access to imputs for shrimpculture (f.e.cooling facilities), capital 9. donor-receptor reflexes, resulting in a passively attitude. 16
18 Solutions for the problems in shrimpculture 1. Application of GAP and high quality imputs (a.o. skilled personnel), availability of new vaccins 2. Destruction of contaminated products, harmonisation of the residu-control for the forbidden substances (introduction of MRPL s) 3. Integration of Codex- and EU-MRL s 4. Control-programmes at Border Inspection Posts on the presence of (zoonotic) bacteria, more hygiene in the chain (HACCP) 5. A. Courses on the EU-legislation, B. focal points for transfer of EU-legislation to the partnership-countries 6. Enforcement of the national legislation for the protection of the environment 7. Introduction of the appropriate equipment, training-courses for personnel 8. Good quality imputs always pay of, ample supply of capital. 9.
