The difference to the standard plate is the chimneylike arrangement of the wells i.e. each well stands on its own. The risk of contamination from sample material being carried over is minimised. In contrast to our standard microplates with a polystyrene bottom, they are ideal for cell culture and microscopy applications using fluorescence or luminescence detection methods. Half Area For many applications in the laboratory, a reduction of the sample volume is an important criterion. Beside highformat plates, the 96 well half area microplates offer an interesting alternative here. 10 2 HTS 5 Tubes/Multi Cell Culture Products lumox TM multiwell lumox TM multiwell plates The lumox TM technology offers cell culture systems based on an optically gaspermeable film. The lumox TM multiwell plate consists of a polystyrene frame. lumox TM multiwell plates are available as 24 well, 96 well and 384 well format. The transparent base of lumox TM multiwell is made of an ultra thin (50 µm) gaspermeable film with very low autofluorescence (Fig. 5). The particular specification of the film results in excellent optical features making the lumox TM multiwell plates suitable for microscopy and fluorescencebased applications. The principle of the lumox TM technology The gaspermeable film has a very low autofluorescence and reliably supplies the cells with oxygen, as well as removing newly formed CO 2 (Fig. 1). The base is tissue culture treated and therefore suitable for adherent cells. Applications The application possibilities for lumox TM multiwell plates range from classic cell culture to fully automated cellbased fluorescence measurements in pharmaceutical activesubstance screening. In particular, lumox TM plates are especially wellsuited for fluorescencebased technologies because of their very low autofluorescence: Cell assays Drug Discovery HighThroughput Screening Subcloning Cryopreservation ADME / Tox Fluorescence microscopy Phase contrast microscopy Convocal microscopy FCS LSCM FISH FRET Cell culture data A stable cell line of PTK2 cells expressing betatubulin construct (see reference: Nat Cell Biol 2001 Feb; 3(2):1409) was cultivated and visualised in lumox TM multiwell plates with resultant excellent image quality (Fig. 3). Cryo Figure 1: The principle of the lumox TM technology In contrast to polystyrene microplates, and glass bottom plates, the film bottom of the lumox TM multiwell plates is transparent for UVlight (Fig. 2). Figure 3 Electron microscopy The ultra thin film base of the various lumox TM products is compatible with electron microscopy applications.
