4 04 Flexible & Cost- Effective Capital Power contracted an external company to design their custom SharePoint Intranet which required those with highly technical capabilities to make changes postlaunch. Unfortunately, the custom site was extremely rigid, making content editing a challenge. After upgrading to a new SharePoint version, they recognized that a complete re-design was required as much of the custom design and functionality broke. BONZAI INTRANET

5 05 Searching... Trusted Search Employees simply could not find the information they needed to do their jobs. When using the global site search, results would pull pages and pages of results from both the intranet and team site environments, making it difficult to find information. Queries often pulled irrelevant results and outdated documents. Additionally, secondary navigation functioned differently across pages making it very difficult to navigate. CAPITAL POWER CASE STUDY

6 06 User- Friendly Most changes to the custom-built Intranet required html, CSS, JavaScript and digital design abilities, making content contribution difficult and modifications near impossible. It was imperative for Capital Power s new Intranet to be user friendly. Modern and intuitive UX is a must so that staff with limited technical skills can manage the site. Consistent User Experience Inconsistent features and functionality with SharePoint Out-of-the-box made adoption very difficult. Training was also an issue because each element worked differently. Capital Power needed a solution with a consistent user experience across the board. In particular, they needed a consistent editing and approval process for publishing all types of content. 7 Mobile & Responsive 07 Capital Power s custom-built SharePoint Intranet was not responsive on mobile devices it was virtually impossible to access their Intranet from anything other than a desktop. 8 08 Intuitive Information Architecture LOGIN Information Architecture (IA) is the structural design of shared information and environments. Without proper IA, Capital Power ended up with a homepage that was packed with information that all had equal weighting. Employees had no idea which content was most important. 9 Team Site Governance Plan 09 The key to longevity and success of a SharePoint environment is mandated governance for its internal environments. Capital Power s former team site environment had no governance plan. As a result, employees published content to team sites, when the Intranet would have been the better location, which resulted in an extremely large team site environment. They are also tracking SharePoint search data and receiving reports on successful and unsuccessful search queries. This data provides valuable insights that will continue to help Capital Power understand the business value of their Intranet. INTRANET COST-SAVINGS As part of an Intranet ROI exercise, Capital Power calculated a 54% decrease in intranet costs over 5-years.
