2 On the road again Tunstall has taken to the road in recent weeks with a series of Connected Healthcare roadshows around the UK. The events were designed to help customers understand the impact of the increasing adoption of digital technologies, and the potential this has to enable new models of healthcare that are more effective, preventative and sustainable. Supported by the TSA and the Housing LIN, the events were attended by a mix of housing, health and social care professionals, providing a valuable platform for exploring the ways technology can help to integrate service delivery. We also showcased our latest digital solutions: Using cellular technology and working on the 2/3G mobile network with a roaming SIM, the Smart Hub doesn t need a landline, removing limitations on location. The Smart Hub is the first home unit designed to operate within a new Connected Healthcare ecosystem which includes our unique Device Management Platform (DMP). The DMP is a cloud-based system customised for the efficient delivery and management of Connected Care It has been designed to enable remote management of Connected Care devices, including the Smart Hub IP home unit, and provide a platform for future services and functionality as they are developed. Using IP connectivity provides real-time data, making it possible to use the DMP to deliver a range of new services, such as remote monitoring, diagnostics and configuration of home units, sensors and devices. PNC8.1 Smart Hub and DMP The Smart Hub is Tunstall Healthcare UK s first IP home unit, opening a new world of possibilities for the provision of care in the home. The advent of IP and mobile technology means that for the first time all elements of Connected Care can link together. Service users, the devices that protect and support them, and the carers and health professionals who look after them, can all be connected to one another in real time, all the time. You spoke, we listened! Automated heartbeat checking continuously ensures home units are active and connected to mains power, giving providers additional reassurance. Also part of our Connected Healthcare ecosystem is the latest generation of PNC. Designed to smooth the transition to the digital future, PNC8.1 enables centres to provide a more efficient, better quality service to the people they support with an end-toend IP system. For the first time, the PNC suite of software is now available on premise or as a hosted service, dramatically reducing the need for onsite infrastructure and IT support, and offering a range of robust, flexible business continuity options. This new option means customers will always be operating on the latest version of software, with access to 24 hour support included in the monthly licence fee. Software and feature updates can take place over the air, and can be scheduled to be applied to multiple home units, reducing the need for onsite technicians. As well as minimising disruption for the user, this increases efficiency for the service provider. A range of new functionality and modules are available, including a re-engineered Service Manager interface, Field Force Management software, a fully integrated mobile telecare solution and the option of delivering proactive The DMP can extract and report on relevant performance analytics from the Smart Hub unit, such as event logs and health of home units, giving monitoring centres real-time access to vital data, including associated sensors. By Alyson Scurfield, Chief Executive of TSA We re in healthcare! We ve recently announced our collaboration with Inhealthcare, whose digital health platform supports remote monitoring. Inhealthcare works with NHS organisations across the UK to help patients manage long-term conditions, reducing pressure on GP surgeries and hospital departments. We will be working together to introduce a series of services that aim to integrate health and social care, and help tackle some of the greatest challenges facing the NHS and care Digital integration of health and care services will be able to suppor By 2025, all analogue telephone services in the UK will be switched off and replaced by digital systems. Ofcom and telecommunications providers advise that systems relying on voice-band data, such as security and fire alarms, many cash-terminals, AND telecare will be affected by this change. Now that telecoms companies have started the migration process, the headaches for telecare are already being felt. It s easy to see why. Most of the UK s 1.5 million telecare units connect to one of the UK s 240 monitoring centres via phone lines. If service providers don t upgrade from analogue to digital in the next six years then many people could lose the technology that keeps them connected and safe, putting major pressure on health and social care Yet action in the technology enabled care (TEC) sector is uncertain and slow. No large-scale upgrade programme has begun and many telecare providers are only just realising the impact this inevitable shift will have on their NHS-managed monitoring of patients in homes and care homes, delivered locally by carers and care workers Identification of vulnerable patients most likely to be admitted to hospital, with tailored digital care plans being created to meet their wishes and needs As the national body for technology enabled care services, TSA wants the TEC sector, regulators and government to grasp the scale of this challenge but also the transformative opportunities it presents.
