1 Agile Project Management Certification Series: Certified Scrum Developer EARN 21 PDUs Hands on workshop with CSD Certification Agile Project Management Certification Series: This is a software development team focused program which fully satisfies the Agile Engineering Practices requirement of the Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) program. Upon successful completion of the program students are eligible to apply to the Scrum Alliance for the Certified Scrum Developer designation. The Agile Engineering Practices course is an intensive 3 Day program which requires a demonstrated understanding of the principles and practices that will be covered during the course, and is appropriate for experienced engineers who have at least 6 months agile project team experience (Java and.net software development environment ) and who have already completed the Certified Scrum Master. This course covers the CSD objectives of Collaboration, Continuous Integration, Test Driven Development, Agile Design and Architecture, and Refactoring. The course focuses on the tacit application of agile practices and principles in an intensive case study that will produce a simple but feature complete product over the course of the 3 day period. The course is structured around 3 one day Sprints, each Sprint is further broken down into 2 half day working periods that are complete with learning objectives and application of the Scrum Framework including performance of all ceremonies.

2 Objectives This workshop focuses on establishing fundamental capability across the CSD Program Learning Objectives through developing tacit knowledge in each area. The program is structured around 3 one-day Sprints, with each half day representing a session with specific program and project related learning goals. End of Day 1- Sprint 1 As a class we want to know who our Product Owner is and what their expectations are so that we can better understand how to collaborate with them to satisfy their needs. As a class we want to have an overview of the product we will be producing so that we can begin considering how we can effectively deliver the product in potentially shippable product increments. As a class we want to understand the project environment we will be working in so that we can work effectively as a team to satisfy our customer through the continuous delivery of valuable software. As a class we want to break into appropriate sized teams to be able to coordinate and work together effectively. As a class we want to establish an effective engineering environment that will enable effective collaboration at the individual, team, and project level so that we can collaborate efficiently and effectively. As Scrum Teams we want to follow the Scrum Framework to deliver the project so we can improve our knowledge and ability in applying agile engineering techniques within the context of the Framework. As Scrum Teams we want to have a qualified build completed by the end of each session so that we are able continuously deliver valuable software. As Scrum Teams we want to have a potentially shippable product increment that delivers the most value so that the Product Owner can provide us with valued feedback and potentially start using the product. End of Day 2- Sprint 2 As Scrum Teams we want to iterate over features delivering the features we commit to during the Sprint 2 Sprint Planning Meeting. As Scrum Teams we want to completely follow the agile engineering practices of Pair Programming, Test Driven Development, and Continuous Integration so that we can satisfy the continuous assessment objectives. As Scrum Teams we want to deliver a potentially shippable product increment that will be demonstrated to the Product Owner at the at the end of the day. End of Day 3- Sprint 3 As Scrum Teams we want to iterate over features delivering the features we commit to during the Sprint 2 Sprint Planning Meeting. 3 Workshop Outline Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Pre-Assessment must be completed before workshop registration User Story & Pair Programing Mercurial & hudson introduction Continuous Integration (Hello World) Test Driven Development Sprint review (demo) Sprint 2 Planning Agile Analysis & Design User Story & Implementation Refactoring Sprint review (demo) Sprint 3 Planning Design Pattern Project Review Post Assessment

4 Assessment Pre-Assessment The pre-assessment will be a combination of description of related experience and questions that help determine the student's understanding of the key principles and practices that will be covered. Only students that are able to demonstrate a solid basic understanding of and preferably have some limited experience with each dimension to be covered will be admitted to class. Those who are not admitted will be given recommendations for areas of weakness that should be addressed before they can participate. The purpose here is not to set a high bar for entry, but to assure that the students have a foundation that will allow the trainer(s) to progress through the explicit materials quickly so that the majority of the class can focus on the tacit part of the training. Student must demonstrate a valid Certified Scrum Master certificate during the pre-assessment. Post-Assessment The post-assessment will consist of: observed behaviors during the class, for example application of pair programming including frequent changes of the driver/navigator role during each session and shifting pairs frequently, with each task pulled; demonstrated application of the practices and principles taught including having a continuously working product available (with checkpoints at the end of each session) which has been developed through a testdriven approach, having a potentially shippable product increment each Sprint, and having a potentially shippable product at the end of the course; and a written assessment that allows for comparison against the baseline established through the pre-assessment.

5 User Stories Collaboration fundamental concepts of pair programming so that I can apply this technique with my pair to improve the quality of our development efforts. As a member of a Scrum Development team I want to establish the basic pair programming guidelines that we will apply across pairs throughout our project. As a member of a Scrum Development team I want to know how to work effectively with my teammates so we can magnify our results while working together as a single team. As a member of a Scrum Development team I want to understand how we will collaborate with our Product Owner to assure we are satisfying him through the continuous delivery of valuable working software. Continuous Integration (and Version Control) fundamental concepts of version control so that I can apply them effectively to improve safe development. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to know the advantages and disadvantages of centralized and decentralized version control systems so that I can select and apply the correct type of system to realize effective version control in my projects. basic concepts of Continuous Integration so that I can effectively apply this engineering practice to my projects to assure we are constantly producing potentially shippable product increments. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to be familiar with various version control and CI tools so that I can select the proper toolkit to effectively enable an agile engineering environment in my projects. As a qualified Scrum Team we want to understand how to apply CI to increase visibility so that everyone can see current project status anytime. As a qualified Scrum Team we want to understand how to apply CI to automate deployment so that we can eliminate redundant manual effort. Test Driven Development fundamental concepts of unit testing and TDD so that I can apply them effectively to improve design quality. basic concepts of xunit tools so that I can apply them effectively in my daily development work. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to be familiar with mock object concepts and tools so that I can support TDD with mock objects to enable testability and ease refactoring. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to be know unit testing principles and practices so that I can select and apply the correct principles and practices to realize effective testing in my projects. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to be familiar with test automation tools so that I can select the proper toolkit to effectively enable test automation. Architecture and Design As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to know how to use User stories to analyze requirement so that communication with product owner can be more effective As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to understand agile architecture principles so that the product will have a long life and adapt to new requirement easily. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to be familiar with testdriven development and apply it in the project so that the product can be easily tested and refactored. As a qualified Scrum Developer I want to understand key concepts for using OO design principles so that I can apply it to improve my code quality. Refactoring As a developer I want be able to apply refactoring to my daily development to improve the quality of my code As a qualified Scrum developer I want to keep my code debt free so that I can move quickly and readily adapt to changing requirements As a qualified Scrum developer I want to continuously improve code readability and design quality Design Patterns As a developer I want to apply proven solutions to reoccurring problems so that I don t need to reinvent the wheel As a developer I want to understand and express design jargon so that I can communicate design ideas effectively and accurately with my teammates.
