3 MDOT s s Problems Users spent hours searching for image data Images were copied numerous times across the network Images were being acquired multiple times Volume of image data continues to grow Different software was being used to view/manage image data No standard data format or projection Page 3

4 Objectives Provide quick and easy access to imagery throughout the MDOT (including districts) Provide improved viewing of projects for management Improve the quality of decisions through use of imagery Increase awareness and availability of image data Limit network traffic by setting up localized TerraShare Store Houses and storage locations Page 4

20 Implementation Plan District 5 selected as a test bed due to proximity to Jackson, and because many of the physical files have already been loaded on the local SAN Load physical data on DFS folders Test DFS configuration Install TerraShare Clients Conduct Administrative and User Training Conclusion: All districts will be installed in the same manner as District 5 Page 20

22 Phase IV - Deployment Bought and installed NAS units (2TB cap.) in each district office (6 districts) Units were service packed to Windows Server 2003sp2 for DFS support First unit in October 2007 All restructured in March 2008 Backdrops generated for each county These were divided into district groups Imagery delivered to each district via external HD District IT personnel instructed on installation of GeoMedia Professional, TerraShare and Oracle Page 22

23 Conclusions MDOT realized immediate benefits through deployment of TerraShare enterprise-wide. All data is centrally located preventing users from spending countless hours searching for imagery. Image data is immediately compatible and available to existing desktop tools. Users can take advantage of the system through web technologies without being a GIS/CADD expert. The Benefits of deploying TerraShare far outweigh the Cost of not managing the image data. Page 23
