Note: A listing of all software products certified by Surescripts for message types or services specific to prescribers in ambulatory settings can be found on the Surescripts Web site at 3
Vendor Guidelines Physician Software Surescripts has three levels of certification associated with physician software vendors. These changes are designed for: 1) Vendors that have certified their software for select message types or perhaps one or two services Surescripts Certified Three Levels of Certification Surescripts Certified 2) Vendors that have certified software for all message types associated with Benefit, History and Routing services designed for ambulatory settings Surescripts Solution Provider 3) Vendors that have met qualifications above and beyond certification for all three core services Surescripts Gold Solution Provider Surescripts Solution Provider Special note for software vendors serving pharmacy and payer/pbm organizations: Please refer to specific Notes on use on the following pages for guidance on use of specific brand marks Surescripts Gold Solution Provider 4
Surescripts Certified Status Physician software vendors that have certified their product(s) for at least one message type or service, may describe their software as Surescripts certified based on the following requirements: The phrase Surescripts certified may be used only in association with the software for which the certification has been achieved. The message types and/or services for which the software has been certified must be included in your reference to the Surescripts certified statement. Correct Use: XYZ software is Surescripts certified for prescription renewals. XYZ software is Surescripts certified for prescription routing. XYZ software is Surescripts certified for new prescriptions. Incorrect usage: XYZ software is Surescripts certified. Company name is Surescripts certified. Logo Requirements Vendors that achieve certification for individual message types or for one or two core services may receive and use the Surescripts certified logo. This logo, and associated language, may only be used to describe the particular version of the software that has completed certification. Previous uncertified versions may not be described as Surescripts certified. This is the only logo that will be made available to vendors that have achieved this level of certification. Use of the Surescripts certified logo must follow our universal logo requirements. (See Universal Logo Requirements section.) For online usage, we recommend linking the logo to our certification status page at Vendors may not receive or use the Surescripts corporate logo. Notes on Use Pharmacy Software Vendors, Payer/PBMs Pharmacy vendors and payers/pbms may use the term Surescripts certified and may receive and use the Surescripts certified logo. When using Surescripts certified, vendors MUST use it in association with the message type(s) for which they have been certified. The phrase XYZ software is Surescripts certified must NEVER be used without referencing the certified message types/core services. Display of this logo must be associated exclusively with the certified software. For online usage, we recommend linking the logo to our certification status page at Surescripts Certified Logo Note: Both color and black and white versions of this logo are available. 5
Surescripts Solution Provider Status Vendors that have certified physician software for all Surescripts services for ambulatory settings (Benefit, History and Routing including all supporting message types), may describe their software as a Surescripts Solution Provider based on the following requirements: Surescripts Solution Provider branding is exclusive to physician software. Note use of caps for Surescripts Solution Provider. The phrase Surescripts Solution Provider may be used by a company only if it also includes reference to the software for which this status has been achieved, e.g., Company XYZ is a Surescripts Solution Provider for its ABC software. Vendors may still refer to the certification status of their software for individual message types separately from their Solution Provider status, e.g., Company XYZ is a Surescripts Solution Provider for its ABC software. ABC software is Surescripts certified for prescription routing. Surescripts Solution Provider Logo Surescripts will show your Solution Provider status on our Web site at Surescripts Solution Provider Logo Physican software vendors that achieve Surescripts Solution Provider status for one or more of their products may request, receive and use the Surescripts Solution Provider logo. Note: Both color and black and white versions of this logo are available. Logo Requirements Only vendors that achieve certification for all Surescripts core services may receive and use the Surescripts Solution Provider logo. The Surescripts Solution Provider logo, and associated language, must be used in reference to the specific software(s) and version that have achieved Solution Provider status. It should never be used to describe other software or your company in general. Use of the Surescripts Solution Provider logo must follow our universal logo requirements. (See Universal Logo Requirements section.) For online usage, we recommend linking the logo to our certification status page at Notes on Use Pharmacy Software Vendors, Payer/PBMs Surescripts Solution Provider branding is not applicable or available to pharmacies, pharmacy software vendors or payer/ PBM organizations at the current time. 6
Surescripts Gold Solution Provider Status Gold Solution Provider status is granted to physician software vendors that have gone beyond Surescripts baseline certification to meet benchmarks that demonstrate a higher level of commitment to e-prescribing. Vendors that achieve this status will receive special recognition on Surescripts listing of prescriber software achieving certification for individual services. Surescripts Gold Solution Provider Logo Please note: The phrase Surescripts Gold Solution Provider must always be associated with the software for which this level of certification has been achieved, e.g., Company XYZ is a Surescripts Gold Solution Provider for ABC software. Vendors may still refer to the certification status of their software for individual message types separately from their Gold Solution Provider status, e.g., Company XYZ is a Surescripts Gold Solution Provider for its ABC software. ABC software is Surescripts certified for prescription routing. Logo Requirements Use of these logos is consistent with requirements associated with the Surescripts Solution Provider branding. Notes on Use Pharmacy Software Vendors, Payer/PBMs Surescripts Gold Solution Provider branding is not applicable or available to pharmacies, pharmacy software vendors or payer/ PBM organizations at the current time. Use of the Surescripts Gold Solution Provider logo must follow our universal logo requirements. (See Universal Logo Requirements section.) 7
Surescripts Connected Logo The Surescripts Connected logo is reserved for use by endusers of Surescripts e-prescribing services (including pharmacies, payer/pbm organizations, and ambulatory/acute prescriber settings) to demonstrate their connectivity to the Surescripts network. Surescripts Connected Logo The Connected logo may not be used by software vendors that have certified their products for connectivity to the Surescripts network. Surescripts certified, Solution Provider, and Gold Certified marks are reserved for this use. Logo Requirements Use of the Surescripts Connected logo must follow our universal logo requirements. (See Universal Logo Requirements section.) Note: Both color and black and white versions of this logo are available. 8
Affiliate Certification Requirements for affiliates of prescriber vendors certified for one or more Surescripts message types/services Vendors that license their applications to third party companies (e.g. electronic medical record (EMR) vendors) are responsible for ensuring that these affiliates represent your certification status in the correct/appropriate way. If your affiliate wishes to allow users of its product to connect to the Surescripts network by using your certified software, it may do so and promote this status only if authorized by Surescripts and only if it meets the following requirements: Surescripts has validated that the affiliate s end users are using your certified software as it was certified by Surescripts. Your affiliate s end users are registered in a sub-account within your primary account. Your affiliate explicitly states that the ability to connect or e-prescribe via the Surescripts network is provided by its use of your certified software. Correct use: Affiliate Software Name allows users to e-prescibe by using Certified Software Name which is Surescripts certified for <as applicable> Prescription Benefit, Prescription History and Prescription Routing services. Incorrect use: Affiliate Software Name is Surescripts certified. Affiliate Software Name will allow its users to connect to the Surescripts network. Surescripts Logo Use: Your affiliate may receive and use the Surescripts certified logo as long as they associate the logo with the correct written reference per the requirements above. For online usage we recommend linking the logo to our certification status page at 9
Universal Logo Requirements In addition to what has been laid out earlier in this guide, all use of Surescripts corporate logo and branding extensions must adhere to the guidelines below. This includes the following marks: Surescripts corporate logo with tag line Surescripts certified logo Surescripts Solution Provider logo Surescripts Gold Solution Provider logo Surescripts connected logo Surescripts Identity Color Surescripts blue pa n t o n e c o l o r: p r o c e s s b l u e c m y k p r o c e s s: r g b: h e x: B2 Surescripts orange pa n t o n e c o l o r: 144 c m y k p r o c e s s: r g b: h e x: F8 98 1D Surescripts color logo To reinforce Surescripts core brand colors, the logo should be shown in Surescripts blue and orange per specs at top right. Surescripts one-color logo On any non-white (or very light) background color, the Surescripts logo is rendered as one-color art, generally knocking out to white. The background color should be either Surescripts blue or Surescripts orange whenever possible. Surescripts black logo When the logo must be rendered in blackand-white (such as in newsprint), the entire logo should be 100% black. 10
Surescripts Identity Incorrect Logo Usage Never reverse the colors of the Surescripts identity art. The Surescripts logotype should never be used without the upper stream element. Never place the color identity art over a photo or a colored background that is not white (or very light) or black (or very dark). Printing the Surescripts identity art on any patterned background should be avoided. 11
Approved Boilerplate Language for Press Releases About Surescripts Surescripts operates the nation s largest e-prescription network and supports a rapidly expanding ecosystem of health care organizations nationwide. Surescripts was founded on the principles of neutrality, transparency, interoperability, efficiency, collaboration and quality. Surescripts connects prescribers in all 50 states through their choice of e-prescribing software to the nation s leading payers, chain pharmacies and independent pharmacies. Available during emergencies or routine care, the Nation s E-Prescription Network gives health care providers secure, low-cost, electronic access to prescription and health information that can save their patients lives, improve efficiency and reduce the cost of health care for all. For more information, go to Benefit Language The following language can be used to describe the benefits of using software that has been certified to connect to the Surescripts network. Note: Benefit statements must accrue with the particular services and message types for which you have been certified. Sample Language to Describe Electronic Prescribing Benefits for Physicians By using an electronic medical record (EMR) or e-prescribing software certified to connect to the Surescripts network, practices can reduce costs, enhance patient safety and improve practice efficiency. Improve the Safety and Accuracy of the Prescribing Process. Prescription Benefit services allow easy selection of medications that are preferred by the patient s health plan, that meet therapeutic guidelines and are cost effective for the patient. Prescription History services allow prescribers to access critically important information on their patient s current and past medications from pharmacy benefit managers and community pharmacies. This helps inform prescribers about potential medication issues with their patients and can improve safety and quality. 12
Prescription Routing services allow legible new prescriptions to be sent directly to the computer at the pharmacy of the patient s choice. Renewal authorization requests can be sent directly to the practice computer. Prescribers can then review and respond to pending requests with a few keystrokes. Enhance Productivity. The reduction in pharmacy faxes and phone calls associated with refill requests, legibility issues, and drug incompatibility or ineligibility problems provides physicians and their staffs with more time to devote to patient care or other reimbursable activities. Sample Language to Describe Electronic Prescribing Benefits for Pharmacists E-prescribing results in the delivery of clean prescriptions, which benefits pharmacists by: Reducing the chance of medication errors Offering physicians access to patient prescription benefit coverage, which means fewer rejected claims and less rework at the pharmacy Reducing paperwork and rekeying, which allows you to spend more time with patients or reallocate that time to activities such as medication therapy or inventory management Sample Language to Describe Electronic Prescribing Benefits for Payers/PBMs Electronic prescribing benefits payer/pbm organizations by: Improving formulary compliance Making generic/therapeutic interchange more efficient Reducing administrative time and costs 13
Approvals Communications that include references to Surescripts and/or its network, and/or its services must be reviewed and approved by Surescripts before release. Surescripts may withhold approval if these references violate standards in this style guide. Material may be submitted for review using the contact information listed at the end of this style guide. We request that at least oneweek be provided for review. Requests with a turnaround time of less than one-week may not be accommodated. Communications requiring review include, but are not limited to, the following: press releases, campaigns, print advertisements, online advertisements, online content and collateral material. There are some cases where review is not required before release. These are comprehensive of the following: An initial press release that describes your certification to connect to the Surescripts network that uses our pre-approved certification press release template and maintains language marked in the release as not to be altered. A copy of this press release template may be requested through the contacts listed at the end of this guide. Use of branding and brand language as outlined in this style guide Use of Surescripts company boilerplate language as outlined in this style guide Use of benefit statements related to Surescripts services as outlined in this style guide Social media or other communication tools that link or direct to pre-approved messaging or content. 14
Contact Information While this guide outlines logo usage and representation requirements, it is not intended to be all-inclusive and may not address every instance in which you are obligated to identify your affiliation with Surescripts.
