3 Type approved products 3 JAFO floor drains are compliant with the requirements of European testing standard EN 1253, which is also one of the sub-requirements in a type approval. An approved and manufacturer-inspected product satisfies the requirements specified in applicable laws and regulations of each country. The characteristics of the product have been verified either through testing carried out by a qualified testing body or by means of calculations. 4 4 Operation and maintenance instructions General JAFO plastic floor drains feature a removable water trap, have a high capacity and, thanks to their screw-in clamp ring, afford a secure sealing layer attachment. A stainless steel hair trap is available as an optional extra, RSK Material JAFO plastic floor drains are made from heat-resistant polypropylene plastic that can also withstand the effects of oils, solvents, acids, etc. Water trap for floor drains Check that no residues left over from building activity (concrete, filler or similar) are in the drain. Also check that the sealing layer is correctly fixed in accordance with this installation instruction. Maintenance and cleaning JAFO floor drains are self-flushing and do not normally require cleaning. However, in the event of significant soiling, or if a drain becomes blocked as the result of build ups of hair or similar materials, it may be necessary to flush the floor drain. Do not use a chemical unblocker, caustic soda or similar. REMOVAL AND FITTING OF WATER TRAP In order to access the water trap, turn the plastic strainer anticlockwise and remove the strainer. If the strainer is made from metal, it can be removed without being turned. Then lift the water trap as described in the instructions on page 5. In the JAFO 86:an model, the water trap is pressed down into the camp ring. Lift by the crosspiece to get the water trap out for cleaning.

6 6 Installation instruction for JAFO plastic floor drains This instruction applies to all JAFO Plastic Floor Drains. JAFO Floor Drains are available in 2 versions: 1. JAFO Floor Drain MP With matt finish pack containing clamp ring, 5 acid-proof stainless steel special screws, plastic strainer, O-ring and protective cover. 2. JAFO Floor Drain UMP Has no matt pack, only a protective cover is fitted. In order to fully install a UMP floor drain, the drain must be supplemented by a JAFO Tile Pack or JAFO Matt Pack or JAFO Clamp Ring with 5 acid-proof stainless steel special screws and an O-ring. General instructions Installation in Sweden must be carried out in accordance with Branschregler Säker Vatteninstallation. Installation in Norway must be carried out in accordance with Bygebransjens Våtrumsnorm. Instructions outlined at and must also be followed. 7 Calculate the floor height at the point at which the sealing layer shall be connected to the floor drain flange so that the drain is positioned at the correct height during installation taking into

7 7 Calculate the floor height at the point at which the sealing layer shall be connected to the floor drain flange so that the drain is positioned at the correct height during installation taking into account the drop towards the floor drain (figure 1). The drain flange is positioned with a tolerance of +/- 4 mm vertically and +/- 2 mm horizontally in order for it to be possible to form a reliable sealing layer connection to the floor drain. Check that the floor drain is designed for the joist in which it is to be installed (timber joist or concrete joist). Check that the capacity of the floor drain is at least 50% of the rated flow in the wet room in which it is to be installed. See page 18. Concrete joist In order to ensure that the floor drain is installed correctly vertically and horizontally, it shall be fitted in JAFO Floor Drain Fixture RSK , NRF , VVS JAFO Floor Drain Fixture comes with separate installation instructions. Timber joist In timber joists, the floor drain must be fitted in JAFO Installation Plate 2, RSK , NRF , VVS This Installation Plate can be used both when laying plastic matting or tile flooring as the surface layer.

Use instruction 1. Place the cutting template in the floor drain or riser ring with the Cutting Template tags positioned in the clamp ring screw holes (Figure 2). 2a.

9 JAFO Cutting Template RSK Using the JAFO Cutting Template ensures that holes made in the floor drain cuff or plastic matting are correct to afford a reliable connection to the floor drain. No part of the sealing layer may be under the horizontal underside of the clamp ring. JAFO Cutting Template is suitable for use with all JAFO floor drains and plastic riser rings from 1991 onwards. Use instruction 1. Place the cutting template in the floor drain or riser ring with the Cutting Template tags positioned in the clamp ring screw holes (Figure 2). 2a. Plastic matting or Figure 2 non-self-adhesive floor drain cuff Place the O-ring in the groove in the floor drain seat. Apply glue around the floor drain but NOT on the floor drain flange. Lay the matting over the floor drain with the cutting template fitted. Depending on the temperature and the thickness of the matting, the matting may need to be heated slightly with a heating gun so that the edges of the cutting template can be clearly felt through the matting. Use a standard matting knife and hold it so that it is as perpendicular to the template as possible (Figure 3). Inside the template, cut an even, round hole, using the template as a support. Pull the cutting template out of the hole and fit the clamp ring in accordance with our installation instruction. See pages

Lay out the Floor Drain Cuff and, using a pen, mark so that the Floor Drain Cuff is correctly positioned over the drain (Figure 4).

Remove the Floor Drain Cuff protective film and glue the cuff in alignment with the markings over the floor drain and cutting template. Use a standard matting knife and hold it so that it is as perpendicular to the template as possible (Figure 3). Inside the template, cut an even, round hole, using the template as a support (Figure 5). If plastic matting is used as a sealing layer, warm slightly with a heat gun in order to facilitate installation of the clamp ring. Screw in the screws alternately in a diagonal pattern without tightening. Then continue to alternately tighten the screws with force until the outer edge of the clamp ring is in contact with the sealing layer. A maximum torque of 1.0 Nm may be used. The screw holes in the clamp ring must not be deformed. NB A screwdriver must not be used XUse cross bit PZ 2

13 13 Fixing of sealing layer using JAFO Tile Pack JAFO Tile Packs are available is several variants The JAFO Tile Pack is suitable for use with all 150 drains in the JAFO range. The lower section/clamp ring means that the strainer is centred over the water trap. The lower section of the tile frame is screwed securely in position and acts as a clamp ring for floor drain cuff or plastic matting as sealing layer. For instructions about cutting holes in the sealing layer, see pages Press the floor drain cuff/plastic matting down into the floor drain seat so that the lower section/clamp ring is over the groove for the O-ring. NB No O-ring shall be installed in the floor drain seat when a self-adhesive floor drain cuff is used. No part of the sealing layer may be under the horizontal underside of the clamp ring. 3. Align the lower section parallel with how the tiles will lie. The floor drain screw holes must be visible through the slits in the lower section. If not, turn the lower section a quarter turn until they can be seen. 4. Fit the accompanying screws in the screw holes. Screw in the screws alternately in a diagonal pattern until the lower section is stable. A maximum torque of 1.0 Nm may be used. The screw holes in the lower section must not be deformed. 5. Apply the sealing layer on the floor. Finally, lay the tile frame, which is secured in the tile adhesive. TILE FRAME FOR JAFO FLOOR DRAIN NB If an original tile frame is not used, make sure that it is centred and that the opening in the tile frame is large enough to allow the water trap to be removed for cleaning. The minimum opening for JAFO 86:an is Ø135 mm.

15 JAFO Riser Rings 15 The flange of the floor drain must normally be placed at the same level as the floor surface where the sealing layer is to be applied. If, for some reason, this is not possible, a range of riser rings is available. There are 3 different rings with riser heights of 12, 25 and 37 mm. These can be combined to achieve the desired height. For timber joists there is the JAFO Riser Insert mm. RSK Installation instruction for JAFO Riser Rings with fixed dimensions PF 12, PF 25 and PF 37 The riser rings are to be used in conjunction with casting or other reinforcement of the floor in order to raise the height of the floor drain sealing layer connection to be level with the floor surface where the sealing layer shall be applied. Riser rings may only be fitted in JAFO floor drains using a screwed plastic clamp ring. The floor drain must be installed so that internal movements cannot occur between the joist, floor drain, riser ring, foundation, sealing layer or floor coating. This means that no stress that may affect the attachment between the floor drain and riser ring, and floor drain, riser ring and sealing layer connection may occur. Raising of 86:an floor drain If it is necessary to raise the height of the floor drain, use JAFO Riser Rings PF 12, PF 25 and PF 37.

16 Important! Remember that as the water trap is installed in the clamp ring, both the water trap and clamp ring will move up when riser rings are used.

If an existing floor drain is to be raised, start by removing the strainer, undoing the screws in the clamp ring and remove the clamp ring. 2. Place the enclosed O-ring in the groove in the floor drain seat. Then place the riser ring in the floor drain seat so that the countersunk holes in the riser ring are over the screw holes in the floor drain. 3. Fit the screws in the riser ring countersunk holes. Screw alternately in a diagonal pattern without tightening. Then tighten them alternately in a diagonal patter so that the riser ring finally is flush and stable in the floor drain seat. NB Do not use a screwdriver. Maximum tightening torque 1.0 Nm.

Mechanical Odour Barrier and Back Water Trap A Mechanical Odour Barrier is available as

odours from wast coming up out of the drain even if the water trap has dried out.

See pages Mechanical Odour Barrier and Back Water Trap A Mechanical Odour Barrier is available as an accessory that replaces the traditional water trap in the floor drain and prevents odours from wast coming up out of the drain even if the water trap has dried out. This is particularly suitable for use in floor drains that are not used on a regular basis.
