2 CHECKLIST All plans must be to scale and include metric measurements. NEW CONSTRUCTION Proof of authorization to construct on the property. The owner must sign the application form and either a copy of title or purchase agreement must be submitted. TWO sets of plans and specifications AND an electronic copy in PDF format (including floor area calculation and unit sizes for projects with a residential component). Refer to the 2010 Engineering Design & Construction Guidelines to ensure you have met all Engineering Services requirements. THREE Surveyed Plot Plans (at least two of which must be originals), showing the location of the proposed construction. ONE 11"x17" Site Plan/Landscape Plan. ONE Foundation Plan Manufacturer's shop drawings for engineered floor and roof framing systems OR a letter of engagement from a structural engineer to review the plans and issue a letter of compliance. Letter of engagement from the engineer who will review the soil conditions, make recommendations for the footings and issue a letter of compliance. Note that the road right-of-way includes all public roadways, sidewalks, rightof-ways, utility right-of-ways or public parking lanes and lots. Any proposed use of the road right-of-way should be minimized. If you need to work on a Sunday or Statutory Holiday, you must first submit a Permission To Work application form to the Town of Canmore s CAO s office for approval.

(All leaseholds renovations or new developments) Section II (q) General Contractor means the business of accepting contracts for the erection, alteration, construction, repair of the buildings or structures of any kind or the person or firm engaged in such business, as the context requires; and includes any owner of property who supervises the erection, construction, alteration and the repair of the buildings or structures where a general contractor is not engaged is such a project. Section II (jj) Sub-Contractor means a person providing sub-contract services to a General Contractor in relation to a particular trade, project or contract. Section IV paragraph 17. All licences issued pursuant to this bylaw shall be posted in a conspicuous place on the business premises of the licensee, so as to be clearly visible to the public. For the businesses that are not carried on at a fixed location, the registration form must be: (a) carried on the person of the Licence; or (b) carried in or on the vehicle or apparatus from which such business is conducted. and shall be shown to the Officer, Business Registry Licence Coordinator or members of the public upon demand. Section IV paragraph 20. A general contractor shall be responsible for ensuring that all of its Trades, Sub-Trades and Sub-Contractors hold a valid Business Registry Licence. A General Contractor shall be charged twice the resulting fees or penalties in relation to its unlicensed Trades, Sub- Trades, and Sub-Contractors pursuant to the terms of this Bylaw. If the General Contractor pays to fees of the Business Registry Licence for the Trades, Sub-Trades, and/or Sub-Contractors that have worked, will work or that are already working on site then the licences will go to the General Contractor. Name: Signature: Address: Phone: Date: Asbestos abatement requirements are located in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code administered by Workplace Health and Safety (Alberta Employment and Immigation). Occupational Health and Safety legislation requires anyone beginning an asbestos project to notify Workplace Health and Safety at least 72 hours before work starts.

6 Additional Information Do I need a Building Permit to perform asbestos abatement work? No. A Building Permit is not a permit to perform asbestos abatement work. Rather, this form is required as part of your Building Permit application and serves as notification to alert Building Regulations that asbestos abatement will be undertaken. Limited demolition or construction is expected during asbestos abatement work and jurisdiction for this work is with the Government of Alberta. What happens if I find asbestos after I already have a permit? In the event that asbestos is discovered, or a change to your scope of work has resulted in the potential for releasing asbestos for a project that already has a permit, you are expected to: 1. immediately stop work; and 2. address the asbestos that has been encountered by: a) providing notification as required by OH&S by completing the Asbestos Project Notification form; and b) ensuring asbestos will be dealt with according to OHS requirements; and 3. submit a Building Permit revision to include a revised Asbestos Abatement form acknowledging the removal of asbestos before resuming work pursuant to the Building Permit. 7 DRAFT Bow Valley Construction Waste Diversion How-To Guide PURPOSE: The purpose of the guide is to maximize the reduction of waste generated and land filled through new construction and demolition. Land is a scarce resource within the Bow Valley and no new landfill sites are expected to be available once the current site has reached its capacity. Therefore, a significant secondary purpose of this policy is to extend the useful life of the existing Francis Cooke Regional Landfill. This guide has been created in conjunction with the Bow Valley Waste Management Commission s business plan. OVERVIEW: The Bow Valley Construction Waste Diversion Program encourages applicants seeking a Building Permit to meet or exceed the goal of 50% waste diversion. Applicants for a Building Permit are asked to review this guide, and then follow the process as outlined on page 2. Upon completion of the project a Project Waste Diversion Summary, which outlines the amount of waste that was recycled from the project, will be provided by Bow Valley Waste Management Commission (BVWMC). Submit the Project Waste Diversion Summary to the Municipality s Planning Department that approved the Building Permit. The following products can be RECYCLED at the Francis Cooke Regional Landfill: Scrub & Brush Concrete & Masonry Asphalt Wood Products Accepted: Not Accepted: Drywall Metal (includes appliances) Asphalt Shingles Cardboard can be recycled at: Kiln dried, OSB, Engineered Joists, Plywood Pressure Treated, MDF, ACQ, Particle Board BANFF Hawk Avenue CANMORE Boulder Crescent This guide has been produced with a coordinated effort of the following:

8 BENEFITS: There are several reasons to pursue a waste diversion program. Save money the difference in rates between sorted and unsorted materials is significant (2015 rates): Diverted: $45-$50 per tonne (100% of material is recycled to applicable recycling pile) Sorted: $105 per tonne(minimum 50% of material is sorted to applicable recycling pile) Unsorted: $195 - $270 per tonne (mixed load, not sorted to applicable recycling pile) Compliance with waste diversion can result in recognition for your project, certification that can be used in marketing and advancing your project s environmental stewardship. Save time...bvwmc has the ability to track the volume of recycled material through their computerized tracking system, which can help with LEED, BuiltGreen, or other green construction program certification requirements. Extend the life of the Francis Cooke Regional Landfill. PROCESS: 1. Complete a Project ID form (Schedule A ) and submit it prior to the delivery of your first load from your construction site. This form can be submitted to Francis Cooke Regional Landfill by: Fax to (403) ; Scan and to: landfill@bvwaste.ca; or Hand it to the weigh scale staff at the Francis Cooke Regional Landfill. 2. Once the form is submitted a Project ID number/name will be issued. A separate Project ID number/name should be obtained for each project. The project can then be tracked by number or name. 3. Quote the Project ID number / name to the staff at Francis Cooke Regional Landfill whenever a load is taken to the landfill. 4. At the conclusion of the project, notify BVWMC by phone at (403) or by at landfill@bvwaste.ca in order to close out the file. A copy of the waste diversion report will be provided at that time. Provide the waste diversion report to the Development Authority to fulfill requirements of the Building Permit. 5. The resulting summary data may be shared with Bow Valley municipalities for general waste diversion statistics. The shared summary data will be anonymous.
