2 The STOPO TYPE 4 sealing strip has stone aggregate on the four sides. Half of the joint sealing strip is embedded in and during concreting, making a very resistant, long lasting and effective seal tight joint. For example, the and models can resist as much as 70 meters static water head pressure. 4 Example of a wall and foundation joint sealing strip installation Embedment in concreting of a raft foundation A STOPO TYPE 4 (stone aggregate around four sides) joint sealing strip is half embedded in concreting of a raft foundation. Mechanical vibration along both sides of the strips is necessary to insure maximum adherence to concrete Although it is preferable to embed in concreting a STOPO sealing strip one meter length at a time, it is possible to preassemble and put aside a few lengths of strips (maximum 3 meters) by thermally fusing the free ends (see method on page 10) before the concreting process begins. While concreting, there must always be a minimum 25 mm clearance between strip sides and reinforcing bars in order to avoid leakage by capillarity. Warning: never attempt to stretch the long strip to reach a junction point. Always cut the necessary length into a new strip and accomplish butt splicing by thermally fusing the cut free ends together using the method shown on page 10. The STOPO sealing strip model, in terms of width and thickness, is determined according to the following criteria: available space between rebar layers, the static pressure resistance required and expressed as «water head», and the degree of sealing protection sought by designers.

5 STOPO PCJS support installation Note about the PCJ galvanized steel supports: there are not an obligation for the use and installation of the STOPO TYPE 4 sealing strips, but they represent a practical alternative for programming control joints in concrete structures and allowing continuous concrete placement. This allows concreting the wall in a continuous process, for improved integrity and sealtightness of work. Note that the vertical sealing strip is joined with the horizontal sealing strip at crossing in slab by thermally fusing.

10 Butt joint and splicing the «STOPO» sealing strips Butt splicing in any direction (lateral, longitudinal or perpendicular) is accomplished by first removing stone and/or cut the strips to the required dimensions, using a heated knife blade, then by thermally fusing the free ends or bituminous exposed surfaces obtained, pressing them together firmly. Heating the blade of a «Richard Combination Tool Ergo-grip knife» with the detail torch makes it easy to scratch the surface of, cut or splice the STOPO sealing strips. Scratching the surface with the heated knife blade to remove stone prior to thermally fusing of strip ends and sides in any direction. Bituminous exposed ends or strip sides are heated to a slight liquefaction stage and pressed together to create sealing strip joints in any direction.
