LEED Green Building Leadership Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) LEED helps demonstrate that a building is designed and built using the latest green technologies. These include energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction and good stewardship of resources. The LEED rating system helps drive the green building market and create a demand for sustainable building products. This level of demand transforms the way buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained, and operated. Using Kingspan Access Floors products and systems can help organisations achieve LEED accreditation. We re working tirelessly to enhance the positive environmental properties of all our products. Kingspan Access Floors products will contribute and may impact the following LEED v3 (2009) and LEED v4 credits: Category LEED v3 (2009) LEED v4 MATERIALS & RESOURCES INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY Building Reuse Interior Non- Structural Elements Construction And Demolition Waste Management Recycled Content Local / Regional Materials Certified Wood Low-Emitting Materials Adhesives and Sealants Building Life Cycle Impact Reduction Building Product Disclosure And Optimisation Environmental Product Declarations Building Product Disclosure And Optimisation Sourcing Of Raw Materials Building Product Disclosure and Optimisation Material Ingredients Low-Emitting Materials Flooring Systems For full glossary of terms used in this datasheet click here. This datasheet identifies those elements that will contribute to your LEED credit strategies. For the purpose of this data sheet, BDC refers to LEED for Building Design and Construction version 3 (2009) and version 4, as appropriate. It is intended that this document will assist specifiers and project teams using Kingspan Access Floors products by providing the necessary documentation and subsequent calculation associated with individual LEED Credit requirements. 03
LEED V3 (2009) MR Credit 1.2: MAINTAIN INTERIOR NONSTRUCTURAL ELEMENTS Associated Documentation Evidence Available None What LEED aims to achieve Extend the life cycle of existing building stock Conserve and retain resources Reduce waste and environmental impacts of new buildings Decrease materials manufacturing and transport Reusing your existing Kingspan access flooring system as a NON- STRUCTURAL interior element, will help contribute to this credit. Reusing exiting building elements significantly reduces the impacts of the demolition process as well as reducing construction waste. Reuse strategies will also reduce environmental impacts associated with raw material extraction, manufacturing and transportation, in addition to reducing emissions. Assessment of contribution is based on the percentage of total Kingspan access flooring system surface area. The requirement is based on a calculation of existing interior non-structural elements, e.g. interior walls, doors, floor coverings and ceiling systems in at least 50% of the completed building by area, including additions. Example Assessment*: Re-used Elements 50% Total Component Area Typical Interior Element Total Area (m2) Reused Qty (m2) Percentage Reused Kingspan Access Flooring 3,000 1,750 58% System Internal Partitions 7,700 3,600 47% Ceiling Tiles 4,000 1,350 34% Suspended Ceilings 2,150 2, % Doors % Totals 17,210 9, % *Assessment based example given in the LEED Reference Guide for Building Design and Construction Typical Assessment: Current project reused non-structural elements amount to 56.8% and would meet the credit requirements. Note: All figures are for example purposes only. For specific details contact Kingspan Access Floors. 04
LEED Green Building Leadership What LEED aims to achieve Divert construction, demolition and land-clearing debris from disposal in landfills and incinerators Recover recyclable resources back to the manufacturing process Redirect reusable materials to appropriate sites Kingspan is committed to conserving resources. We are able to assist project and development teams by using our in-house specialist flooring contracting teams and contracting partners to remove endof-life access flooring from building refurbishment and redevelopment projects. Our aim is to reclaim and recycle as much of the end-of-life access flooring as possible. This re-use of resources will help to minimise the volume of components that are sent to landfill as part of a project s demolition programme. We can completely or partially remove end-of-life raised flooring systems as part of strip-out works. In accordance with our commitment to recycle waste, the elements are taken back to our factory and disassembled. All recyclable components such as metal components are reclaimed and the remaining elements are reused where possible. Recycling metals: End-of-life metal floor tile encapsulation, stringers and pedestals: Recyclable metal waste is segregated. 100% of metals removed from the flooring system are recycled. Recycling routes: All Kingspan recyclable materials are collected and managed by licensed and certified waste disposal providers. Composite wood/chipboard: End-of-life composite wood/chipboard floor tile core: All Kingspan composite wood core waste is reused as biomass fuel. The process used in converting the composite wood core into fuel is carried out within our factory for the factory heating system. Since 2014, Kingspan Access Floors has sent ZERO waste to landfill from the manufacturing plant. Waste steel panels and off cuts are shredded on site in Hull and recycled within the manufacturing process. Kingspan will provide waste haulier receipts/waste collection tickets containing details of reclaimed material, and can also provide a letter confirming a project specific assessment of material weight/rate diverted from landfill and incineration. This Credit is also applicable for LEED v4 Materials & Resources Construction and Demolition Waste Management. 05

LEED V4 LEED Green Building Leadership MR: BUILDING PRODUCT DISCLOSURE and OPTIMISATION ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATIONS Associated Documentation Evidence Available 1. PRODUCT EPDs What LEED aims to achieve To encourage the use of products and materials that have environmentally, economically, and socially preferable life-cycle impacts To reward project teams for selecting products from manufacturers who have verified improved environmental life-cycle impacts Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) are independent (thirdparty) verified reports that provide transparent, comparable and quantified data about the life-cycle environmental impacts of a manufactured product. The requirements for EPDs are defined within ISO for established product categories (Product Category Rules), parameters for these are based on the ISO series of standards and ISO for building products. EPDs are available for many of our access flooring products. EPDs allow us to control, monitor and continue to evaluate and improve the environmental performance of our products. In LEED v4, project teams that take into consideration product and building element EPDs can readily compare and evaluate similar products. LEED Credit Option 1 Environmental Product Declaration for at least 20 different installed products Kingspan Access Floors are one of the first flooring system producers to have a Life Cycle Assessment of our flooring systems in accordance with the international standard. The inventory of environmental impacts allows us to implement plans to minimise the impacts associated with our products and our operations. Selecting relevant products within our access flooring range, project teams are able to use our independently verified EPDs to contribute to the credit strategy. 13

LEED Green Building Leadership LEED V4 Emissions and Content Requirements: To demonstrate compliance, a product (including an assembly) or a building element/layer must meet all of the following requirements, as applicable: 1. Inherently non-emitting sources: Products that are inherently nonemitting sources of VOCs (stone, ceramic, powder-coated metals, plated or anodised metal, glass, concrete, clay brick, and unfinished or untreated solid wood flooring) are considered fully compliant. They do not need any VOC emissions testing if they do not include integral organic-based surface coatings, binders, or sealants. 2. General Emissions Evaluation: Building products must be tested and determined compliant by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v , using the applicable exposure scenario. The default environment is the private office scenario. Manufacturers or third-party certification must state the exposure scenario used to determine compliance. Claims of compliance for wet-applied products must state the amount applied in mass per surface area. 3. Manufacturers claims of compliance with the above requirements must also state the range of total VOCs after 14 days (336 hours), measured as specified in the CDPH Standard Method v1.1: A. 0.5 mg/m 3 or less B. Between 0.5 and 5.0mg/m 3 ; or C. 5.0 mg/m 3 or more The tested product complies with the requirements of the Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of VOC Emissions from Indoor Sources using Environmental Chambers, version 1.1 of February 2010 by the California Department of Public Health. To see example test results click here Note: Projects outside the U.S. may use products tested and deemed compliant in accordance with either (1) the CDPH standard method (2010) or (2) the German AgBB Testing and Evaluation Scheme (2010).
