2 A high performance structural sheathing and lining board Description Econicboard is a high quality, versatile, non combustible sheathing board for open and closed panel timber frame, SIPS, pre insulated panels and offsite modular systems. Econicboard can also be used as an internal wall lining, ceiling lining or as a fire resistant layer fitted under traditional structural decking boards. Manufacture and Composition Econicboard is manufactured to ISO 9001 using high quality materials. The principal constituent is Magnesium Oxide ( MgO ). The board is non- toxic and free from formaldehyde, benzenes, solvents and oil based chemicals. Many building boards contain chrystalline silica which is extremely hazardous to health when dust from such boards is released by cutting. Econicboard has been independently tested for chrystalline silica and none was found above the limit of analytical detection. Appearance Econicboard has a polished surface on one side and a rough/keyed texture on the reverse. The board can be fixed either way round,but for render and brick slip applications the textured side is typically used. Dimensions and Pallet Quantities Tolerances 2

( Report Ref ) Boards with an AI classification are suitable for consideration for use in sheathing and decking applications in all categories of STA FC Build with due reference to STA Product Papers 3 and 4. Econicboard is suitable for use in the following applications in STA Product Paper 4 version 2 October 2013 : 4.1 Floor assemblies F4 & F6 4.2 Wall assemblies W3 & W4 4.3 Wall assemblies W5,W6,W7 & W8 4.4 System walls assemblies S3,S4 & S5 Fire Resistance Econicboard has significant fire resistant properties and Duncryne has a range of data to support specifiic applications. Example : 12mm Econicboard screwed to either side of non loadbearing 75 x 45mm timber studs with Rockwool 75mm RW5 batts between the studs has provided in excess of 90 minutes resistance to fire when tested to BS 476:Part2:2007. Char Depth Analysis Duncryne has conducted extensive char depth analysis on different thicknesses of Econicboard with solid timber joists of varying dimensions. Racking Performance The racking resistance of 9mm thick Econicboard fixed to a timber frame structure has been independently tested to BS EN 594 : 2011 at Lucideon ( formerly Ceram ). The results were as follows : 3

The 9mm Econicboard sheathed timber frame panels nailed at 150mm centres to the perimeter and 300mm to the internal studs achieved calculated basic test racking resistance values in excess of the category 1 materials with a value of 2.10 kn/m2 with no vertical load and a value of 1.68 kn/m2 with a vertical load of 5kN per stud. Wind Loading The wind loading performance of Econicboard fixed to a timber frame has been tested in accordance with EN A1:2005.Eurocode 1 b. The panel achieved a maximum load of 4.8 kn/m2, giving an acceptable safety factor against failure of 2.8. EN A1:2005 provides a wind map of the UK which details wind speeds without correction factors for altitude. The maximum load of 4.8 kn/m2 achieved by the Econicboard system is above the wind speeds given in this section. Sustainability A full life cycle analysis has been conducted by the Centre for Energy and the Built Environment at Caledonian University to establish the environmental sustainability of Econicboard. This has verified that Econicboard has a carbon emission rating equivalent to 20% of cement fibre boards. The analysis considered the entire life cycle of the product and also made a comparison to other forms of board and expressed this as a kg CO 2 per kg of the product.the report assumed that the calcining approach used in China is using coal, however for completeness a comparison with natural gas was made. The result of this Life Cycle Analysis is that the product is a low carbon product and is best in class against the other main board types that the product competes with. Airtightness The excellent dimensional stability of Econicboard reduces the risk of movement at joints. Improvement of airtightness can be achieved on the board line by taping the 4

6 Sitework and Installation Storage and handling Boards should be stacked on a level surface on pallets under cover and in dry conditions. When handling, take care not to damage corners or edges. If boards are damaged they may lose their fire integrity and must be replaced. Cutting Econicboard can be cut using normal woodworking tools. A tungsten carbide or diamond tipped blade is recommended. Dust Econicboard contains no asbestos fibres or chrystalline silicate.however in accordance with good practice dust extraction is advised for high volume cutting or machining Framing Econicboard is suitable for use with timber framing.all framing must be constructed to comply with the relevant building regulations and Eurocode standards.framing must be set out to a true plane to ensure a straight and level finish.studs must be placed at maximum 600mm centres.timber should be kiln dried and have a moisture content less than 20%. The timber frame thickness at the sheet joints must be a minimum of 38mm. Fixing Econicboard can be nailed or screwed to timber studs or battens. Either the rough or smooth face of the board can face outwards.boards can be be installed in a vertical or horizontal orientation. Horizontal plates, dwangs or noggins will be necessary to receive fixings at the top and bottom edges of boards. Boards should be installed in a stretcher bond pattern. Econicboard must be held firmly against the framing when fixed to ensure breakout does not occur at the back. Fixing is recommended from the centre of the sheet working outwards to ensure sheets are hard against the framing and to avoid unevenness. Joints A 3mm gap must be left between Econicboards. Fabrication service Duncryne offer an offsite fabrication service for cutting, routering and pre holing panels. 6

7 Type of Fixings Please consult Duncryne for advice on appropriate fixings. Due to the alkalinity of the material all fixings must be anti corrosive and suitable for outdoor use. Typically stainless steel, anodized, zinc or powder coated fixings should be used. Nailing trials have demonstrated that the board does not crack when the recommended nailing pattern is followed. Board Arrangement and Fixing Patterns It is recommended that Econicboard is installed in a stretcher bond arrangement which avoids 4 way joints. Fixing Pattern for Screws to achieve Category 1 Racking Strength Note : The first fixing in from the corner must be 40mm away from the edge of the board. The distance from the edge of the panel to the first row of fixings should be 15mm. Other fixing centres are as marked on the drawing. 7
