3 T S Geo-Wall and Building Systems The use of SIP technology means that everything is built in the factory and provided in a kit format. The SIP kit is delivered to the job site via flatbed truck or in a High Cube 40-foot container. Once the panels are spread out to make identification and selection easier, the erection is quite fast and efficient. However, it is important to recognize that the SIP kit is made using OSB wooden faces. OSB wooden faces are highly susceptible to water damage (Mold, Mildew, and Rot) and are not Fire-Safe. Structural Insulation Panels (SIP) are traditionally made using OSB wooden faces over a Styrofoam (ESP or XPS) or Polyurethane (PUR) core. This offers specific advances in the erection of houses and other buildings, including: Excellent Thermal Performance minimal thermal bridges with the elimination of traditional wood 2 6 framing at 16 o.c. Integral Insulation Insulating core; expanded polystyrene (EPS), for example, has an R value of 3.8/inch. Low Waste (Factory Built) panels are pre-engineered and produced in a controlled environment Fast Construction Method erection of the panels can be as much as 3 times faster than traditional framing Air-Tightness fewer joints and OSB sheathing on two sides; allows for a much tighter building assembly than traditional. One of the logical progressions in SIP technology is the elimination of the OSB in favor of Steel skins. This technology is known as Steel Structural Insulation Panels (SSIP). SSIPs are highperformance building panels that can be used in floors, walls and roofs for residential and commercial buildings. The SSIP panels are produced by permanently bonding a core of rigid foam plastic insulation between metal skins. Steel-faced SIPs are manufactured under factory-controlled conditions and can be custom designed for any structure. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. This technology provided the structural strength that was desired. However, these SSIP needed to be covered with sheathing, for fire safety, aesthetics and other reasons. Note that the core materials are still not Fire-Safe. Page 3 of 11

4 Another progression in SIP technology is the replacement of the OSB and Steel Skins with sheathing materials. Unfortunately, the use of Gypsum board sheathing did not provide the structural strength needed nor the durability desired. The alternatives were the use of Magnesium Oxide Sheathing or Fiber Reinforced Cement boards. The use of fiber reinforced cement boards could provide the strength, yet lacked the durability desired, were too heavy, and were made in smaller sizes than desired. The use of magnesium oxide boards had the claimed superiority over fiber reinforced cement boards. Unfortunately, in real world applications, the magnesium oxide board sheathing simply could not handle humid environments. The T S Geo-SIP (or T S Geo-wall) is a technological advancement to the traditional Structural Insulation Panel (SIP) and the Steel Structural Insulation Panel (SSIP) technologies. The T S Geo-SIP utilizes the T S Fiber Reinforced Sheathing over the desired core materials. The following Table 3 shows the use of T S Fiber Reinforced Sheathing over an EPS core. 5 In an effort to overcome the disadvantages associated with Organic Foam Cores (EPS, EPS and PUR) numerous companies have attempted to use aerated light weight concrete Building Systems. Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC), also known as Autoclaved Cellular Concrete (ACC) among other names, was developed in 1924 by a Swedish architect. This material has a density of between 20 and 50 pcf and a compressive strength of between 300 to 900-psi. Unfortunately, these cellular concrete materials are brittle and subject to cracking. To overcome the brittleness and cracking of the ACC technology for building systems, the progression lead to the use of Styrofoam beads in the Light Weight concrete mixture and is known as EPS Concrete. EPS Concrete is not as strong as stone-based concrete mixes, but has other advantages such as increased thermal and sound insulation properties, easy shaping and ability to be formed by hand with sculpturing and construction tools. EPS Concrete can be easily formed into wall, flooring and roofing panels with or without the incorporation of sheathing, and in hollow core formats, as needed. The predominate use is for non-load bearing walls. Page 5 of 11

6 In the Phase 1 development of the T S Geo-Wall, the structural core was made using a proprietary EPS Concrete; providing exceptional results. This proprietary EPS Concrete involved the use of polystyrene (XPS or EPS), as a very light-weight additive, in a mineral foam cement. The mineral foam cement consists of cement, water and a proprietary foaming agent. The strength development of the light-weight material is based on the reaction (hydration) of the cement with the added water at ambient temperature. This combination yielded some exceptional results. Aerated Concrete vs. EPS Aerated Concrete The following table shows the differences between a superior Light Weight (Aerated) Concrete and the Phase 1 T S EPS Aerated Concrete. 7 Some of the T S building systems, using this Phase 1 technology of Table 4, were tested under the European DIN Standards. These standards closely parallel the ASTM Standards that are accepted in the United States. In fact, in some cases, ASTM essentially adopted the DIN testing protocol (methods) needed for testing lightweight concretes. These T S building systems used specific engineered cementitious technology to establish the baseline for the T S engineered cementitious composite technology related developments. It should be noted that traditional cementitious technology demonstrates friability (seen as a negative quality) that the even the 1 st generation T S engineered cementitious composite technology do not have. 8 The T S Geo-Wall is yet another technological advancement that utilizes the T S Fiber Reinforced Sheathing and a T S Fiber Reinforced Engineered Core. This T S Fiber Reinforced Engineered Core does not use EPS/ EXP beads or aerated concrete. The T S Fiber Reinforced Engineered Core utilizes specific proprietary reactive filler technology. Additionally, the T S Fiber Reinforced Engineered Core can incorporate Hollow Core technology; providing several structural advantages for non-load and load bearing walls, sub-floor and roofing decks. The T S technology increased the strength to weight ratio, while reducing the friability, of the matrix.
