1 SPEC / PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum requirements for natural gas piping systems in industrial applications for up to 60 psi service downstream of the utility distributor s meter set assembly, and upstream of a gas appliance isolating valve. Buried natural gas & propane pipelines shall also comply with Vale Std. Specification SPEC-11009, Buried Pipelines Natural and Propane Gas. 2.0 AND FITTINGS Design Condition Operating Conditions Design Fabrication Installation Approvals Pipe (above ground) Rating 75 Ambient temperatures Up to 60 Ambient temperatures, indoors and outdoors. Piping shall be installed in accordance with CSA B149.1, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code and this standard. In accordance with this specification and SPEC-5002 SPEC-500 CSA B149.1 ASME B1.1 Piping General Requirements Welding Process Requirements Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code Power Piping Note: This specification applies to piping systems where the line temperature may fall below -20 o F, after adiabatic expansion or other process conditions. Gas flow through a control valve or orifice will expand, releasing energy and will cool the adjacent piping. Piping on Vale property does not require TSSA for pressure piping, but does require approvals for TSSA under the Fuel Safety division for natural gas systems operating at 60 PSIG and under. All natural gas piping systems shall be treated in accordance with ASME B1.1 and the requirements of TSSA even though it is exempt from registration. 2" & Below Schedule 80 carbon steel per ASME B6.10, ASTM A5 or A106 Gr.
