BROADWAY SUITE 203 EDMOND, OK INTRODUCTION 1.1 Building Research Systems Inc. submitted their PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Metal Roof Systems for exploratory simulated wind uplift pressure testing. Examination included simulated wind uplift pressure testing and resistance to foot traffic testing as described in the Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FMRC) Standard 4471 (1995) Approval requirements for Class 1 Panel Roofs. 1.2 The client requested wind uplift pressure testing and resistance to foot traffic testing on the products. 1.3 The material tested is not manufactured under the Factory Mutual Research Corporation follow-up inspection and reexamination program; therefore, the manufacturer cannot use the Factory Mutual Research name for marking or advertising the material. 1.4 The manufacture of the test sample components was not monitored by FMRC and all descriptions of test sample components were supplied by the client. 1.5 Tests show that the Building Research Systems Inc. PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Metal Roof System test samples, as tested, met the FMRC Windstorm Classifications as specified in the CONCLUSIONS of this report. 1.6 This test program was not intended to, nor does it, grant FMRC Approval for the Building Research Systems Inc. PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Roof System. The purpose of this program was to determine the windstorm classification of the submitted roof constructions in accordance with FMRC Class 4471 (1995) windstorm classification requirements only.

3 1D7A7.AM FACTORY MUTUAL RESEARCH CORPORATION Page 3 of 5 III TESTS AND PROCEDURES 3.1 Tests conducted were as requested by the sponsor of this program. 3.2 FMRC Windstorm Classification Tests Tests were conducted using the FMRC Uplift Pressure Test Apparatus to evaluate the ability of the components of the panel roof assembly to resist simulated wind uplift pressures without failure of the assemblies The simulated wind uplift pressure tests utilized a 12 ft (3.7 m) wide by 24 ft (7.3 m) long by 8 in. (203 mm) deep steel pressure vessel arranged to apply air pressure at preestablished standard rates to the underside of the test panel which formed the top of the pressure vessel. The vessel was pressurized with air A net pressure of 30 psf (1.4 kpa) was applied to the test sample and maintained for 1 minute. The pressure was released until no upward pressure was acting on the roof. The pressure was then increased to 45 psf (2.2 kpa), maintained. and exhausted as above. This procedure was repeated with each successive pressure increased by 15 psf (0.7 kpa) increments until failure occurred. 3.3 FMRC Resistance to Foot Traffic Tests Tests were conducted using the FMRC Resistance to Foot Traffic Test Apparatus to evaluate the ability of the panel roof to resist simulated foot traffic without damage. There must be no puncture of the roof panel or disengagement of the laps A 200 Ib (91 kg) load which incorporates a 3 in. (76 mm) square steel plate with rounded corners was imposed on the sample. The load was placed in the approximate center of the sample (midspan) and adjacent to the side lap. The load was then removed. This cycle was repeated four additional times. The roof panels were inspected for damage after the last cycle at the steel plate interface. IV TEST SAMPLES 4.1 FMRC Windstorm Classification Test Panels Two 12 ft by 24 ft (3.7 m by 7.3 m) test specimens were constructed as follows: Samole NO.1: Building Research Systems Inc. PanelCraftTM Standing Seam -Roof System consisting of PC218 panels, 18 in. (457 mm) wide panels of 24 gauge ( in., 0.59 mm) AZ50 galvalume steel produced from A792, Gr. 50 steel having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2). The panels were secured to clips fastened to 16 ga ( in., 1.49 mm) thick steel purlins produced from A792, Gr. 50 steel having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2) spaced 5 ft (1.5 m) o.c. with 2 - ITW Buildex 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) Traxx/3 self-drilling fasteners per clip on one-half of the test assembly and 2 - Construction Fasteners 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) IMPAX self-drilling fasteners per clip on the other half of the test assembly. Adjacent panel's were seamed together along side laps with an Building Research Systems electric roof seaming tool., --/.

PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Roof System consists of standing seam roof panels, floating clips, and associated components PanelCraftTM standing seam roof panels are roll-formed 22 ga. (min in., 0.70 mm) or 24 ga. (min in., 0.59 mm) AZ50 Galvalume or G90 Galvanized steel panels joined together by an interlocking seam and secured to the structure with interlocking Floating clips. The panels are produced from ASTM A792, Gr. 50 steel having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2). The panels are available in. ( mm) wide, with seams 2-3 in. (51-76 mm) high, and are available with flat pan, striated pan or beaded pan options. The panels are designated with the initials "PC" followed by the seam height followed by the panel width, and are known as PC212, PC216, PC218 and PC318. The panels are either coated with a aluminum-zinc alloy, (galvalume) or coated with a zinc (galvanized) coating. The galvalume coating designation is AZ50, equivalent to a theoretical coating thickness of in. (0.04 mm) total for both sides. The galvanized coating designation is G90. For the PC212, PC216 and PC218 panels, one side of the panel has a 0.10 in. (2.5 mm)high rib plus a 1.9 in. (48 mm) high seam, forming a 2.0 in. (51 mm) overall panel height. The other side of the panel has a 0.10 in. (2.5 mm) high rib plus a 1.96 in. (50 mm) high seam, forming a 2-1/16 in. (52 mm) overall panel height. Forthe PC318 panels, one side of the panel has a 0.10 in. (2.5 mm) high rib plus a 2.9 in. (74 mm) high seam, forming a 3.0 in. (76 mm) overall panel height. The other side of the panel has a 0.10 in. (2.5 mm) high rib plus a 2.96 in. (75 mm) high seam, forming a 3-1/16 in. (78 mm) overall panel height. For each of the panels, the higher seam fits over the lower seam, and the adjacent panels are interfocked with a Building Research Systems electric roof seaming apparatus which provides a TripleLok 90 seam. The finished seam includes the interlocking Floating clips The floating clips consist of a 16 ga (min in., 1.49 mm) steel base with an interlocking 22 ga (min in., 0.70 mm) steel tab. The base and tab are produced from ASTM A446 Grade D, G-90 galvanized steel having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2). The base is 2 in. (51 mm) wide and the tab is 4-1/4 (108 mm) wide. The tab has two notches that keeps the base centered until the clip is secured. 2.2 ITW Buildex 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) Traxx/3 self-drilling fasteners are a 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) diameter screw with 14 threads per inch, a Traxx 3 Radius Milled Point, with a 5/16 in. (8 mm) Hex Washer Head. They are 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) long. The fasteners are made from type 1022 carbon steel coated with grey "Climaseal" coating. They are used to fasten the clips to the steel supporting members. 2.3 Construction Fasteners 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) IMPAX self-drilling fasteners are a 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) diameter screw with 14 threads per inch, various milled points, with a 5/16 in. (8 mm) Hex Washer Head. They are 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) long. The fasteners are made from type 1022 carbon steel coated with galvanized coating. They are used to fasten the clips to the steel supporting members. 2.4 Steel supporting members (purlins) are roll-formed from min 16 ga ( in., 1.49 mm) thick ASTM A792, Gr. 50 steel having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2).

(0.75 m) o.c. with 2 - ITW Buildex 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) Traxx/3 self-drilling fasteners per clip on one-half of the test assembly and 2 - Construction Fasteners 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) IMPAX self-drilling fasteners per clip on the other half of the test assembly. Adjacent panels were seamed together along side laps with an Building Research Systems electric roof seaming tool. 4.2 FMRC Resistance to Foot Traffic Test Panels Sample NO.1 described in above was also tested for foot traffic resistance. V RESULTS 5.1 FMRC Windstorm Classification Tests Sample NO.1 described in above met the 90 psf (4.4 kpa) min FMRC requirements for Class 90 Windstorm Classification. Mode of failure was seam disengagement from clip tab during incremental pressure increase to 105 psf (5.1 kpa) Sample NO.2 described in above met the 165 psf (7.9 kpa) min FMRC requirements for Class 165 Windstorm Classification. No failure occurred during testing. 5.2 FMRC Resistance to Foot Traffic Tests No damage to the roof panels or disengagement described in 4.2 above was observed after the test. of the side lap on the test panel VI CONCLUSIONS 6.1 Test results indicate that the Building Research Systems Inc. PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Roof System would meet the FMRC Class 4471 (1995) Windstorm Classification requirements for simulated wind uplift when installed as summarized below: Steel supporting members, min (16 ga ( in., 1.49 mm)) thick ASTM A792, Gr. 50 steel having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2) are max 5 ft (1.5 m) o.c. PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Roof System consisting of min 24 ga. ( in., 0.59 mm) thick PC218 panels having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2) are secured to clips secured to each supporting member with 2 - ITW Buildex 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) Traxx/3 selfdrilling fasteners or 2 - Construction Fasteners 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) IMPAX selfdrilling fasteners per clip. Adjacent panels are seamed together along side laps with a Building Research Systems electric seaming tool. Meets Class 90 Windstorm Classification.

( in., 0.70 mm) thick PC218 panels having a min yield strength of 50 ksi (345 N/mm2) are secured to clips secured to each supporting member with 2 - ITW Buildex 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) Traxx/3 selfdrilling fasteners or 2 - Construction Fasteners 1/4-14 Hex Washer Head (HWH) IMPAX selfdrilling fasteners per clip. Adjacent panels are seamed together along side laps with a Building Research Systems electric seaming tool. Meets Class 165 Windstorm Classification. 6.2 Based upon an engineering analysis, PC212, PC216 and PC318 panels would be expected to reach the same level of performance as described in the above constructions. 6.3 Factory Mutual Research Corporation makes no judgement of product uniformity solely as a result of the tests performed in this program. Product uniformity depends in part on manufacturing facilities and procedures which would be inspected under the Factory Mutual Research Corporation Audit Inspection and Reexamination Program provides a means to assess these conditions. 6.4 This test program was not intended to, nor does it, grant FMRC Approval for the Building Research Systems Inc. PanelCraftTM Standing Seam Roof System. The purpose of this program was to determine the windstorm classification of the submitted roof constructions in accordance with FMRC Class 4471 (1995) windstorm classification requirements only. The products cannot bear the FMRC name in their advertising unless they are included in FMRC's Quality Audit Inspection Program as a result of one or more separate Approval test programs. VII MARKING 7.1 The material tested is not manufactured under the Factory Mutual Research Corporation Audit Inspection and Reexamination Program; therefore, the manufacturer cannot use the Factory Mutual Research name for marking or advertising the material. VIII LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS 8.1 Factory Mutual makes no judgement of product suitability for its intended end-use based entirely on Windstorm Classification Test results.
