Secure wires to panel points and structure above per most stringent requirements of fabricator and Title 24, and as indicated on drawings. Wires shall be plumb (1:12) from the runners to the ceiling to allow easy removal of the panels. Make all runner wire connections less than ¼ inch, outside to outside of wire, to ensure easy removal of the Ceiling Tile. b. Wires exceeding 1:12 out-of-plumb shall be braced with counter-sloping wires thus making the wires in the area 12 inches above the runners plumb, thus ensuring Ceiling Tile removal without damage from wire ties. c. Keep wires 6" min. clear of un-braced ducts, pipes, and other items. d. Install wire within 6" of ends of all main runners and cross-tees at ceiling perimeters. e. When obstructions prevent direct suspension, provide approved trapezes or equivalent devices; 1-1/2" min. cold-rolled channels back-to-back may be used for spans to 6 feet max. f. Locate wire-sets and struts at 12 feet max. O.C. At ceiling perimeters, wire-sets must be within 6 ft. of walls. b. Locate four-wire sets and struts within 2 in. of cross-runner intersection with main runner; space wires 90 from each other and run parallel to all runners. c. Do not install sway bracing wires at an angle greater than 45 with the ceiling plane. d. Wires to be taut without causing ceiling to lift. e. Secure struts as shown. 4. Provide all additional wires, #12 min., necessary to properly support grid at electrical devices, air distribution devices, vertical soffits, and other concentrated loads. 5. Grid: a. Grid members may be attached to 2 adjacent walls but must be 1/2" min. clear of other walls. b. Any grid members not attached to walls shall be interconnected to prevent spreading, near their free end, with a horizontal metal strut or #16 ga. taut tie wire. c. Provide additional tees or sub-tees to frame openings for lights, air distribution devices, electrical devices, and other items penetrating through ceiling, which do not have an integral flange to support and conceal cut edges of acoustic panels. Provide cross-bracing necessary to securely support any surface mounted fixtures or other items. 6. Attachment of Wires: a. To Wood Joists, or Framing Members: As indicated. Improvements to Existing Modular Classrooms for Interim Housing Page 6 of 8
7 b. To Grid Members: Insert through holes in members or supporting clips and make all runner connections less than ¼ inch, outside to outside of wire, to ensure easy removal of the Ceiling Tile. c. All wires to be fastened with tight turns; three tight turns min. for hanger wires; four tight turns min. for bracing wires. All turns to be made in a 1-1/2" max. wrap distance and wound tight enough to prevent damaging tiles when removed. B. Grid System for 2' x 4' Lay-In Acoustical Ceilings: 1. Main Runners: Space main runners 4'-0" apart; #12 hanger wires space 4'-0" on center max. along runners, and within 6" of ends. 2. Install wall mouldings. 3. Cross-Tees: Install between main runners in a repetitive pattern of 2' spacing as shown. 4. Sub-Tees: Install at edges of all penetrations, per above paragraph A.5.c. 5. Bracing Wires: Install as specified in Article 3.02A INSTALLATION; ACOUSTICAL PANELS: A. Lay panels into grid. Partial panels to be neatly cut, painted to cover exposed edges and fitted to grid and around penetrations and/or obstructions. Duplicate Tegular edges at partial panels; cuts to be straight. Repaint cut tiles to match existing color at visually exposed conditions. Architect and the District Project Manager to be final judges of exposed conditions ADHERED TILE INSTALLATION: A. Tile applied to solid backing surfaces shall be cemented in place using specified adhesive in accordance with manufacturer's installation recommendations. 1. Do not butter too many tiles in advance, as a skin will form and weaken the bonding ability. 2. Provide thicker adhesive where required to create a flush installation at patched areas. B. Tile shall be spaced symmetrically about centerlines of the room or space, and shall start with a tile or joint line as required to avoid less than one-half tiles at wall line. Joints shall be straight and tight and aligned with the walls or existing tile. Ceiling molds shall be used where tile abuts wall and where shown RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE; INSTALLATION; LIGHT FIXTURES: A. This work to be performed by Division 26, Electrical. B. Fixtures Weighing Less Than 56 Pounds: Lay fixtures into grid, secure earthquake clips to grid members. Install two #12 ga. taut safety wires, plumbed (1:12), to each fixture at diagonally opposite corners, to support their weight independent of the grid. Make all runner safety wire connections less than ¼ inch, outside to outside of wire, to ensure easy removal of the Ceiling Tile. C. Fixtures Weighing More Than 56 Pounds: Lay fixtures into the grid, secure earthquake clips to grid members. Install not less than four taut #12 ga. wires, plumbed, capable of supporting four times the fixture load. Size the gage of the wire to meet the four times the weight requirement for proper support. Make all runner connections less than ¼ inch, outside to outside of wire, to ensure easy removal of the Ceiling Tile RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE; INSTALLATION OF AIR DISTRIBUTION DEVICES: A. This work to be performed by Division 23, Mechanical. Improvements to Existing Modular Classrooms for Interim Housing Page 7 of 8
8 B. Lay air distribution grilles and other devices into grid. Install four #12 ga. taut wires, plumbed, to each device within 3" of device corners, to support their weight independent of the grid. Make all runner connections less than ¼ inch, outside to outside of wire, to ensure easy removal of the Ceiling Tile ADJUSTMENT & CLEANING: A. Cleaning: 1. General: After installation of acoustical material has been completed, clean all surfaces of the material, removing any dirt, or discolorations by foreign matter. 2. Acoustical Panels: Minor abraded spots and cut edges shall be touched up with the same paint as was used for factory applied finish of the lay-in panels under Division 09.
