3 UK policy context The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK s work to end extreme poverty and deliver the Global Goals in line with the government s Aid Strategy, building a safer, healthier, more prosperous world. Climate information and services are a key priority for development bn International Climate Fund (ICF) to support international efforts to address the challenge of climate change. Knowledge and information are recognised as a key component of achieving our objectives on climate change and disaster resilience. Programmes include: ClimDev, BRACED, CDKN, CARIAA, WISER, FCFA and many more

4 Future Climate for Africa is a research programme that aims to: support world-leading research to enhance scientific understanding and prediction of extreme weather and climate in sub-saharan Africa, and working with African stakeholders, bring this science into use in informing adaptation to climate change.

7 Piloting needs-informed climate services Aim: truly demand-driven research with focus on co-production of knowledge with users through FCFA pilot studies, to provide climate services informed by needs Pilot studies using diverse collaborative methods to explore the gap between user needs and general state of climate services Challenges in identifying entry points and stakeholders with the ability and interest to act on longer-term climate information

9 Capacity Development Leveraging world-leading research programme to enable Early Career Researchers A package of integrated capacity development initiatives supporting: Funding, human resources, infrastructure, technical skills, platforms for communication, an ethic of collaboration, autonomy to pursue opportunity Activities include: Establishing a Class of FCFA Needs assessments Innovation Fund Mobility Fund Formal Training; workshops and summer school Image: FCFA Early Career Research, Dr Bamba Adamba (Université Félix Houphouët Boigny, Ivory Coast) leads a discussion on climate metrics with agricultural stakeholders
